ok, i've made a really good attempt at
1 million on super centipede.. i fell
short at 700k..

the first 300k: blob strategy worked great,
got tired hands, modified to use 1 poison mushroom.

350-700k : used fill screen, and 'tunnel' down the
middle of the screen.. a few hours later, ended..

game : arcadecl-sc
score : 717798

notes : 3men+extras at 12k.../ a best game for me, however this
version doesn't have as many scorpions, its easier to recover when
they hit the bottom, also this doesn't keep extra men past 6 either.... / delete .nvram and no sound to replay, i used direct draw, and
automatically skip frames.../mouse to move+keyboard to shoot

version used : win61

i cant seem to upload it...
so here's the file..

<* hold on, i'm verifying it now, and then
when it's ready i'll post the link *>

i noticed a few things:

1) the game has a max speed i think..
2) scorpions don't come out that often
3) the sprites are bigger, making a lot
of the targets easier to hit..

4) the fleas come out in fixed patterns
i think..(see screen shots)..

heres a shot around 660k, with the tunnel

heres the final score, note the nearly symmetric
pattern the fleas have created in the mushrooms

[*NOTE: i've moved the images to a /games/pics area now *]

Ok, I'm going to say this now. First of all, I don't care how much people post, or what they post about (as long as it's somewhat on topic for the particular forum).

But your subject lines are very annoying and distracting. You don't need to use underscores instead of spaces. You don't need to [do this] to something in the subject - just work it into the subject, or make it clear enough what it is about.

Nice scores on the Centipede games, btw.

While we're on the subject of annoying. Negative1, please don't rename your Inp files. Those long file names are annoying. Thanks.

hi buttermaker,
actually every single .inp file i have downloaded
from this site uses that same notation..

its logical,
because that way you don't overwrite the
default file (if you have one)..

and also, it helps make it clear which version
of mame is used, and which version of the game
it is..

also, the name of the zip file is long, which is
what the board members wanted.....so just
rename the file if its long..(i do that when
i play them back under dos)..

thanks for the comments..

yeah buttermaker, it's a major pain but it can be worked around, since it is usefull to have multiple inps with different names for the same game.

it's possible to make a fancier playback script to automatically rename inps "mv *.inp inptmp.inp" and then "mame -playback inptmp.inp" When barry gets done with the marp helper front end this might be a problem of the past for everyone. I think you can also "associate" inp files with a mame command line, so it may be possible to double click on a inp file in explorer and have a mame -playback be forked off automatically.

Yeah, it's certainly not so much of a problem through a frontend. But even so, longwinded inp filenames are totally unnecessary. Especially Kelly's. The entire long game name doesn't need to be in hte filename at all.

And if you want to rename the Inp you can do it after the upload.
