Some games don't work with sound, some people are distracted by the
sound, and some people would rather listen to MP3s.

Speed at which the game runs is an issue too. Most games, if not all,
run faster without sound. Some games are unplayable on a large
percentage of slower computers if you play with sound.

I wonder why no one plays goalx3 with sound though..... hmmm
I never saw a difference.

Some games can't be played back when they are recorded with sound,
goalx3 (and a lot of the soccer games for some reason) have this
attribute. Also just because people record with out sound doesn't
mean you have to play their games back with out sound. For most
cases you CAN playback a recording with sound when it was recorded
with out sound, but not always...

In a perfect world, we'd all have Athlon 1Ghz. processors, with the
best hardware known to man. Unfortunately, there are still people
out there that can't run with sound on and get a good framerate
*cough*myself*cough* :)

Also, and BBH and Vaz will say it's sacrilegious (spell check?) of
me, but sound isn't everything :)

then explain why my 1ghz t-bird (which is basically athlon) with a
geforce2 mx has to frameskip ~ FS 4 on stun runner? (with midas 22050
sound, no stretch, MAME32 b13, no triplebuffer)

or is this normal for a processor like this ??

Stun Runner with sound takes up a WHOLE lot of processing time.
There's some frameskip on my 850 mhz. (Little enough I can play it,
but the sound is not that exciting in the first place.)
