Could anyone explain to me the rules to this particular game? It
doesn't appear to have any instructions. I haven't been able to
finish the first board, since I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do!

Ah, you need to get your energy bar full, then you can exit the level
(the exit is obvious). Once you close the gap you need to close in
order to exit, you can go back to the board and pick up some more
points before you leave.
