1943 powerup codes?

I'm just wondering, are the powerup codes in 1943 that you can do at the beginning of a level "legal" for MARP recordings?

For those wondering, these are the codes.... simply hold down the direction and/or button when you're taking off from the aircraft carrier until the level begins and you can take control of your ship.

Stage 1: Down <br>
Stage 2: Button 1 <br>
Stage 3: Up-Right + Button 1 + Button 2 <br>
Stage 4: Down-Left + Button 2
Stage 5: Button 1
Stage 6: Left
Stage 7: Up-Left
Stage 8: Left + Button 1 + Button 2
Stage 9: Down-Right + Button 1 + Button 2
Stage 10: Up-Right + Button 2
Stage 11: Up-Left
Stage 12: Right + Button 1 + Button 2
Stage 13: Up
Stage 14: Up-Left + Button 1 + Button 2
Stage 15: Down-Right + Button 1
Stage 16: ??? (the code I found was Right + Button 1, but it doesn't work)

Do any powerup codes exist for 1943 KAI?

stupid board formatting... let's try that again.

Stage 1: Down <br>
Stage 2: Button 1 <br>
Stage 3: Up-Right + Button 1 + Button 2 <br>
Stage 4: Down-Left + Button 2 <br>
Stage 5: Button 1 <br>
Stage 6: Left <br>
Stage 7: Up-Left <br>
Stage 8: Left + Button 1 + Button 2 <br>
Stage 9: Down-Right + Button 1 + Button 2 <br>
Stage 10: Up-Right + Button 2 <br>
Stage 11: Up-Left <br>
Stage 12: Right + Button 1 + Button 2 <br>
Stage 13: Up <br>
Stage 14: Up-Left + Button 1 + Button 2 <br>
Stage 15: Down-Right + Button 1 <br>
Stage 16: ??? (the code I found was Right + Button 1, but it doesn't
work) <p>

I asked the same question about the secret codes in Bubble Bobble and
undocumented moves in Fighter games some time back now. Opinion was
split on the issue.

<p>

I believe that as long as the secrets are freely made available to
all (like you've listed them above) and that you state that you used
them in a text file accompanying the inp, then you should be
permitted to use them. The codes are part the game (albeit well
hidden).

<p>

I can certainly understand those opposed to these powerup codes being
used as it clearly makes the game much easier and there is a good
argument indicating that playing with codes wasn't intended by the
game designers.

<p>

Tough issue.

I'd personally think that it's all right to use codes like the ones
above for the game. It's in the game and can be reproduced by anyone.
I also wouldn't think that disclosure of how it was done would be
necessary. That doesn't mean one should be a nuisance and hoard
secrets he or she may found, but for the most part codes like that
can be found easily enough on the Web anyway, once one knows they
exist.

In general, powerups must be evaluated on a per game basis. Powerups
should not be used if it makes the game a good chunk easier than it
should be (kind of like how autofire makes a game a good chunk easier
than it should be.) I mean if you're going ban all autofires, we'd
be hypocritical to allow most powerups. (Yeah even though powerups
are INTERNAL as compared to EXTERNAL autofires, it's just as if you
set the dipswitch setting to give you more lives or an easier level
of play.)

<p>

Powerups give a game you didn't know the power ups in before a new
life, but that extra fun is for enjoyment not competition. If you
change the game play with a powerup (and especially if other people
before were not using powerups) then the powerup shouldn't be allowed.

<p>

I'm not dissing all powerups but i'm just reminding everyone not to
get carried away. I have no experience with 1943 so i'm still taking
a no contest on this particular issue.

When I watched Richy Cream's Slap Fight recording (nice work by the
way Richy :)), there appears to be a 'secret' way to powerup in that
game as too which I never knew about when I used to play it in the
pub. Although it requires a bit of skill to do you just hold fire
for a while at the beginning of the game then when you die, you warp
ahead and get full powerup.

<p>

And what about Gaplus where you can let the whole first wave get into
formation, shoot the 2nd from the left on the bottom row, then ram
the special ship as it dives down the left in order to get a better
ship for the rest of the game. Ok, you can probably take that one
for granted that it's allowed but there could be hundreds of games
where the programmer has built in a 'back-door' which we will never
know about.
