qbertqub doesn't playback/record in mame36 or m37b1?

I'm trying to improve my qberyqub recording, but I can't get any recording to play back.

I'm typing:

m37b1 qbertqub -record qbertqub -soundcard 0

to record, and

m37b1 qbertqub -record qbertqub -soundcard 0

to play it back, after deleting the .cfg and .hi files, but even the colours of the 'target' qube are different on the first level I play from when I recorded it.

What gives?

Chris.

Firstly, shouldn't you use -playback to play it back at not -record?

Secondly, unfortunately I have the same problem with Puzzle Bubble,
the bubbles are different colours when you play back. Then I found
out (by going into game settings with F2) that the game knows the
actual date and time, so the emulator is using some sort of external
asynchronous call to get the real time from the system.

My guess is that this time information isn't recorded in the inp so
when you play back the game it is played at a different 'time' from
when the recording was made. If a random number generator is getting
its seed by reading the time then the game won't play back properly.
I thank you.

you should be aware that typos are rampant, i'm sure zwaxy meant
playback instead of record... The only help i can offer is there
seems to be a lot of dependecies on the nvram files
mame\nvram\qbertqub.nv to playback your inps correctly. With some
games: If you recorded with out a .nv file be sure to remove it
before you play it back; If you recorded with an .nv file, besure you
can recreate the one you had at the time of recording, cause you'll
need that same file at the time of playback.

I don't know for qbertqub , but concerning Puzzle Bobble all that I
know is that playbacks were working fine with mame34 final dos , and
don't work with mame35 or 36 ... strange

Yes sorry Zwaxy, I was actually trying to be funny (and failing) when
I mentioned about using -playback instead of record.

Before my inp for Puzzle Bobble with a score of 34mill was rejected
(because it wouldn't play back) I did have many people tell me about
it working with mame34 DOS. But unfortunately the machine I use has
DOS permanently disabled by the administrator so for the time being I
am unable to prove myself at this particular game :(.

Thanks for that, Chad. Your suggestion of making sure there's no
nvram*.nv file did the trick. There ought to be a page somewhere on
MARP which mentions that deleting .nv files is a good idea - who is
the site admin? Are they really as clueless as they seem? And what
kind of a name is "Zwaxy", anyway? Sounds like a girl's name to me...

No, zwaxy is not a girl's name nor a guy's name, it's clearly a
hermaphrodite name. :) don't be talking about the site admins that
way, they may get angry and call you names.
