I saw your recording of Twin Eagle and your question
of what thet are singing in the "bonus" level...

I always thought that they sang something like:

And one more thing BBH:
I remember that the sound was not better on the real arcade machine
than the mame version... it must be bad sampling of the song
a suppose.. I still wonder who made the song..

Since i played my first mame game i have searched for Twin Eagle
but i didn4t remember the name of the game....
Twin Eagle is still one of my favorite shooters but
i don4t remember that it was so hard!!
Default 3 ships and no extras??
I just made it to the end of level 2.. I used to finish the game
one one credit... maybe it was on easier settings or some clone..

Who knows. It definitely sounds more like "gonna break it down" than
"gonna break you down" to me, but close enough. Of course, the second
line is a real mystery, can't even hazard a guess at whatever the guy
is mumbling.

I can't remember playing Twin Eagle in the arcade... if I did, it
obviously didn't make much of an impression on me. But for me that
brief rockin' song (turn down all the sound channels except for 00 and
01 if you just want to listen to the music in the game) is the only
redeeming thing about the game to me - it is just way too hard. Maybe
it was only the Japanese version that was hard, and the rest of the
world got easier versions. I hope that's the case. At any rate, if
there's any one thing to make me hate a shooting game instantly, it's
having a ship that is way too slow to survive. There is nothing more
frustrating than knowing that a bullet is coming your way and not
being able to do a damn thing about it even when you know in advance.
Sure, the game gives you speed-ups but they're few and far between. It
takes like two or three to get up to the default speed of most other
shooters. Hell, I'm surprised that Bubble passed up one or two of
those speed-ups... what's wrong with you, man?! I guess this game
pretty much defines the "Die and you're SCREWED" shooter... I reached
the end of the 3rd "stage" once, died, and didn't have a snowball's
chance in hell of ever getting past that again. Think it's any
coincidence that the attract mode player gets to be invincible?

Meta Fox has some really low-quality singing too, but it's definitely
a Japanese female voice. Vocals in game music is nothing new to me but
I just didn't expect them from shooters.

I agree with you BBH this game is really hard when you die once..
And the ship is much to slow to navigate... But still i fancy
this shooter, i don4t know why but i really love the game!

The music in the bonus level is great and i love the sound when
you shoot the buildings down!

I remember that i used to play Twin Eagle with a friend (2 players)
of mine and we finished the game almost every time.
I finished it on single mode but it was much easier I think
The bounus levels are way to hard on this version, and
as you said "ooops i died once and the rest of the ships are screwed
up..."

Talking about Bubble he seems to be amazing at those shooters
He is holding first place on a lot of the shooters i can see.
And if he doesn4t have the first place you have it BBH!

I saw your recording on Ghouls and ghosts-great stuff!
do you play GNG also? GNG is one of my favorite games
but i4m not good at Ghouls...
I was just wondering if you could give match my scores
on the GNG games including makaimura?

Thanks, but I'm definitely not the best Ghouls 'n Ghosts player on
MARP - there are a few that have proved they are better. I only played
Ghouls 'n Ghosts for Tourney 3, I wouldn't have touched the game
otherwise. And so I don't have much interest in taking up Ghosts 'n
Goblins, which I've spent hardly any time on. Already have enough
stuff to play right now as it is.

Another great human shooter is Ikari warriors, but
I can4t seem to get the controls right for that game on mame...

The arcade version had som kind of joystick that you turned in
eight directions by switching it left or right I remember.

<p>

Now you have to use the mouse to do the same thing...

Actually, I think Ikari Warriors is overrated. Once again, it's a case
of having a character that moves way too slow. If you're not in the
tank and you trigger one of those devices that fires the missile at
that location, you're pretty much dead. There's one point in the game
where there are soldiers throwing red grenades at you, if you die and
lose yours, you pretty much don't have a chance in hell of ever
getting close enough to throw your own again. Personally, I could do
without that. On the other hand, I LOVE Time Soldiers, and think
that's one of the best human shooters ever made. 'Course, I still love
Shock Troopers better.

Anyway, regarding games using the 8-way rotary joystick. I play them
by using a pad to move and the mouse to spin/fire. For most of these
analog games (Time Soldiers, Heavy Barrel, Midnight Resistance,
Gondomania, etc) I change the sensitivity rating (found in the Analog
Settings menu) to 8%. It takes a little practice to get used to using
the mouse to spin precisely, but I've adapted much better than I ever
thought I would.
