FAX should be BANNED

Post by Lord AxE »

When I started to record a game in fax I noticed that questions would be same from game to game.

for example: If I would choice sports then genius. The first question would always be "Who won the Kentucky Derby in 1875". I would always answer B because that was always the first question.

After, a few recording I could map the answers from start to finish. Thus, knowing the answer before the question is asked.

Check out the TOP 3 for fax. You will see that the top score is apparently is 85300. In fact there currently 17, 85300 listed under under the various fax games.

In my opinion fax games should be removed.

QT, Axe's "vote" might push FAX over into being banned, remember to
record this and ban the game if it does.

I'm not sure that 8 votes for or against solves the problem any more.
The system worked great when only about 12 people cared enough to
vote, but there are a lot more active players now. I don't know. I
really hate the cheating that has gone into fax (deliberate use of
pause key)--but what do other MARPers think (opinions on the voting
process, not on FAX). I have no problem with banning it.

There will be a vote called this week on banned games/banned
techniques, now that the new pages are up. And yes, Phil, I misnamed
the pages originally-I think gameboy9 has renamed everything but the
links now.

I do think the best of 10 voting that banning has been is rather
limited. But i'm not sure what else to do but up the minimum vote
before banning... Perhaps we keep a running total of votes that can
be changed by the voters, and as soon as the percentage gets over 66%
votes yes to ban , the game is banned, but if the percentage drops
below 50% then the game is put back into play.

I.e. if we have a game like fax which eventually gets 66%, and then
all of a sudden we find a setting for the game that makes the
questions more random, as people change their votes to keep the game
and the voting ban percentage goes below 50% we can reintroduce the
game.

I agree with Axe. The reason for banning the games on the list now
is that they require no skill to play. This, in my mind, joins that
lowly crowd.
I also support a running 66% ban vote. With the influx of new blood,
we need to revamp our voting system.
