Well, the codes for Bubble Bobble haven't been banned (to my
knowledge). And it's not as if they're infinite lives cheats or
anything. Also, nothing is stopping you or anyone else from using
any of the codes in Rainbow Islands. (Besides, I like games that
have secrets in them)

Although I`m usually against any form of 'cheating', I think that
Barry has a valid point. These codes are available to everyone, and ,
as Barry has done, should be (if used ), be included in the
'comments' field when submitted.
I don`t think that using codes is cheating, but it does give you a
hell of an advantage ! But in fairness, Barry has provided the web-
address for these codes, so everyone can use them ( myself included ).
I don`t see a problem, apart from the crappy Default settings of
course :)......3 men ?....YUK....
The following link provides the original arcade Dip Switches for R.I,
so I`ll try to convince Mark Longridge to agree to TG settings for
this game. Then, we`ll all be on a level playing field. Here`s the
URL:http://www.bubandbob.com/faqs/rifaq.html#pins

<p>

If Mark agrees, at least we`ll have more than 3 men to play around
with :)

ALEX

Ban them?? Not sure about banning those secret levels beside point
leeching nor powerup codes that I just recently saw a japanese inp of
Rainbow Isl. The japanese guy racked up about 22 mil. and completed
all levels including the 3 secret levels! Wasn't sure if he used the
powerup codes in beginning of the game!

Damn! 22M, I have just got to see that recording... I would say
that he definitely used the 9,999,990 extend code (my guess, and it
is just a guess, is that that code allows scores greater than 10M,
the normal limit is 9,999,990). Also I think only one code can be
used at a time, but I could be wrong on that (haven't tried it).

The banning of these codes will probably occur it will just take some
time. Sure it is great that there are secret codes - they make the
game fun, mysterious and interesting. The point is that we need a
level playing field for all game on MARP or we will have a situation
where the best player is not the one with the top score but the one
who has found out the cheats. If you can't find these cheats through
normal gameplay then they should be definitely banned. I have
submitted the Bubble Bobble cheats (powerup, diamond room, super) for
banning a couple of weeks ago. Actually you can find out the super
cheat through gameplay (but not the others) but it is not legitimate
to compare a super game vs the normal game - so it too should be
banned. I am not so familiar with the Rainbow Island cheats (another
Taito game) but they should definitely be banned or categorised
differently. I urge those who know those cheats to submit them for
banning ASAP.

<p>

Just to reiterate. Secret codes and cheats are fun BUT they do give an
unfair advantage to those who know them over those who don't. The
easiest way to look at this is to consider a game that you have worked
hard on to master. You play it for weeks and obtain a high score. Then
you are beaten by player that has less mastery at the game but knows a
cheat that gives you 10,000 pt bonuses say - like in Rainbow Island.
How would you feel ...

Okay guys! You asked for it! It is over on http://www.mamenavi.com/
This is site is japanese only! I can't read japanese this site and I
could figure it out without the translation program! It was mentioned
on TG msg board! Look under Replay and you find some japanese inps
over there! I guess Gameboy has beaten me about telling about this
site!

<p>

No! Barry! It does show over 10 million points after completing the
secret levels!

<p>

Also, check it out the Outrun's infamous gear gauca trick! Driving off
the road with high speed! Wow! I wonder how they do that trick! But
anyway, it would be banned if that trick ever show up on MARP site!

<p>

Also, I would like to give special thanks to Hisa Chan for pointing
out the Japanese Replay (Inp) site on TG msg board!

Ok, I've looked at it, and it most definitely plays to a score of
22.7M points. Other than not using default settings (set to
Japanese, extra at 100K and 1M, and an extra for collecting the 7
diamonds). That's a lot of lives, espically when you don't die often.
The only code used is indeed the 9,999,990 extend code, without it
the game maxes out at 9,999,990 (like I thought). I think only one
code can be used at a time. The guy that recorded this obviously
knows the game well, getting the secret room on all but one island.
This score would be impossible to get at MARP, due to the default
settings not giving any extra lives at all. At the finish you 1M +
1M per life remaining. In this case 9 lives = 10M bonus. The game
does not allow more than 9 lives at a time.

<p>

Basically, in conclusion, that Japanese guy is f***ing good!

counter-up command
<p>

1P-right-rainbow-jump-1P-left-1P-rainbow
It is written 10th island(bubble islands)seacret room.

<p>

20million is not so good score.
It is gettable easily at MARP default.

<p>

Threw all seacret room bonus is 50 million!!
If your setting is no extend,but 63 million is
possible.

UNBELIEVABLE !!!!
<p>

I never thought I'd ever see anyone complete the secret room bonus on
so many levels !!!

<p>

Now I'd just love to see a perfect finish to this game.

<p>

BeeJay.

<p>

PS: I wonder why he deliberately gave up on the secret room on the
Arkanoid Level ?!

There are 2 kind of ROMs of RAINBOW ISLANDS normal version.
<p>

I have written this information at TG old forum.
old one does not define all room bonus 50million.
new one define this BIG BONUS!

<p>

I played MAME RAINBOW ISLAND yesterday.
#I hate DELL COMPUTER's KEY BOARD.

<p>

at YOUR default settings.
English,2men,no-extra men at 100K and 1M,100Kinstead of extra when
complete 7 diamonds.

<p>

and clear all 40 stages with all rooms.
BUT The rom which I got is old version.so my score was very poor.
I will update this poor play to mamenavi.
but It is worth more than 24million by extra men settings....

<p>

I want a good joystick....
