If there was... it would have to be done by bringing in a second
player... technically that's illegal in MARP(because two player games
are illegal), but I don't see what's wrong bringing in a second
player at the end... then again... that's my opinion...

I agree, provided they max the score 9,999,990 before joining in the
2nd player - i.e. sitting on 8.9 Million then joining in the 2nd
player and getting the 1 Million bonus is NOT good enough. Another way
of saying it is that the final score is the one just prior to adding
in the 2nd player - which should please all the skeptics.

An additional point - there are a couple of variants in the endings.
In all games if you finish level 100 with 1 player you will get the
'bad ending' and be zapped back to any stage between 50-85 that is a
multiple of 5 (.e. 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85).

In those versions that support both the 'normal' and 'super' variants
of the game there are two endings. If you play the normal game and
finish level 100 with both players you will get the 'non true ending'
which at the end gives you the encrypted 8 character code
(P1,Jump,Shoot,Left,Right,Jump,P1,Right) to the 'super' powerup trick
that you can enter at the start of the game at the Bobble Bobble
logo that turns the game into 'super'. The encryption key is also
given which is a simple substitution cypher so you can decode the 8
characters. You are also cryptically informed that if you get to the
secret rooms at level 20, 30, 40 that more hints will be provided.

Finally, playing 'super' with 2 players and completing level 100 will
give you the 'true' ending - which really isn't much different than
the the 'non true ending' of the 'normal game'.

willwithout entering the keycodes at the start that make the game
'super'
