TA's Pitfall2 Recording - What's Going On?

Here I was wondering how T. Alex could get 3 times the score that anyone else has got. So I watched their recording. Everything looked kosher until stage 2 after the player had touched the crystal ball which plants the key to end the level. The player then worked their way down to the last crystal on the right hand side above the water and then waited until the time hit 3:00 and collected the crystal. Normally collecting a crystal adds 30 seconds of time. This time the bats also turned a funny colour. Sounds harmless enough. The player then climbs down a ladder to the bats and lets them run into him!!! Each bat touched gets 1000 pts and makes the same sound that you get when you collect a crystal - and the player doesn't die. This effect seemed only to last when the time was in the 3+ minutes. The player collected some other crystals to keep the time in the 3+ minutes. After a while the effect wore off and the bats looked normal again. The player seemed to behave funny sometimes - would go off the screen and then come back for no apparent reason or would not touch a bat even though it was a funny colour. Anyone know what's going on here? I've never seen this before. It doesn't appear to be an intended feature of the game. How does it work?

I saw his inp file too.
This guy knew this 'some kind of trick' and used it.
It happened exactly what you explain above and also he took a kind of
watch that gave him a million!!!!!!!
I think he definitivally mastered this game , all I can do is play it
again and make my million too!!

T. Alex certainly seems to know his games. Have you seen his Solomon's
Key recording - awesome. He does a trick there too that I've never
seen before - see my separate post on it. I don't know where he finds
his tricks. It's as shame he won't respond to my emails etc

Here's what T. Alex has to say on his pitfall2 recording:

As youve rightly noticed in level 2 when you collect a crystal
exactly on 3:00 bats turn golden and you can catch them. This is not a
bug of the game, but a provided case, a secret thing, like the golden
man, the golden cup and the golden clock (which appears in the last
level only if youve collected all three previous objects and gives
you one life, 1,000,000 points and some more time.

This secret exactly works in the following way: in level 2 (and ONLY
in level 2) when you collect a crystal exactly on 3:00 every bat turns
golden and keeps in such a way until 3:15. Every bat you catch
gives you 1,000 points and you have to catch at least one of them to
get the clock in the last level (warning: youll get it only if youll
have collected also the golden man and the golden cup).
