Solomon Key Crashing?

I've been playing Solomons Key on MAME Win 0.35 and it seems to keep messing up whenever I get a free life or use a fireball. Does this happen to anyone else or anyone know how to prevent it?<p>
(setting bonuses lives to zero worked on 0.34 but not now it would seem...)
