Reaches the extended play and the emulation seems to freeze - MAME is still running and responsive in its menus. Numerous frames later the emulation moves on a moment and freezes again. Even longer, later, emulation kicks back in and the player crashes into the top and stays there. End score: 46. Same scenario with/without sound. I have no MAME32 0.37b14 to test with - did it exist?
There's even more stop-go freezing going on in 0.37b15 and 0.37b16 - the player's car only circles around at the start line. The MAME32s of 0.37b15 and 0.37b16 don't suffer the stop-go freezing but the car still circles around at the start line.
