You may have to playback older mames with a different virtual operating system. Mame playback has had some issues with compatibility of hardware or OS versions changing the way things are recorded/playedback. I think I made the note that i could not play it back with XP and only played back with windows 98. And I now of course get 144k playing this back in XP, but when i had a windows98 machine it did playback to 164640.

If you're the patient sort, maybe running Win98 via MESS would work... (reports are that WinME can run in MESS now...) Use a virtualisation app (Virtual PC, Virtualbox, VMware) if you're impatient.
