galagao from simpsons99

Post by BeeJay »

Can anyone playback the galagao recording from simpsons99: http://replay.marpirc.net/inp/0/3/3/bea ... olf106.zip

It desyncs for me and only plays back to 34,560.

Cheers,
BeeJay.

ok @ 112160. it's pretty unfortunate simpsons can't playback own recordings, that must mean others can't do the same thing, I just can't fathom not being able to analyze my own game play and improve from seeing the playback, And if you can't playback your own recordings, you must have trouble playing all the other goodies we have at harp, anways simpsons recordings playback for others so simpsons is probably doing something right. But now i'm concerned by BJ can't play these back, they aren't involving nvram problems at least with galaga clones.

Simpsons99's galagao and galagamk both play back fine for me. I do have an issue playing back your new replay though Beejay: http://replay.marpirc.net/inp/b/f/6/bj_ ... olf106.zip

Beejay's galagao replay only playsback to 35160 for me. Beejay's new replay on galagamk also doesn't playback properly (it starts a two player game where player 1 scores 910 and player 2 scores 36820). Can somebody else that simpsons99's replays work for try Beejay's replays and see what they get?

Were there maybe some romset changes to these roms between 106 and 145 (I'm using a 145 version of the galaga and galagao/galagamk roms)?

Beejay's galagao replay only playsback to 35160 for me.
I get the same result as you, 35160. It seems to desync in the middle of stage 4.

I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my Wolf106, given that I couldn't playback simpsons99 recording and you can't playback mine. I definitely can play them back as I did that twice, the 2nd time to get the score, before I submitted the recording. There's no NVRAM folder on my machine, nor can one be created by Mame either due to a text file called NVRAM in the Mame folder. I'll download a new copy of Wold106 tonight and give that a try on one of our other machines.

Note: Yes, I normally play player 2 and I always get rid of player 1's lives by trapping a ship, killing it, trapping and then killing the last one, because player 2 shows the millions digit(s), although in this case that wouldn't have mattered as I wasn't planning on going to the full million on this game. It sounds like most people can't play my recording, so I'll DQ them for now until I can work out what's going wrong on my machine. I'll use another machine at home to do a test replay as well before I submit the next ones.

Cheers,
BeeJay.

With a new Wolf106 and new roms I can now playback the simpsons99 recordings. That's a weird one!?!

I'll do some new recordings now with the new setup and see if others can now play them back properly.

In the past I had some pb problems related to some of these settings... try to compare previous and current Default Game Options, BeeJay:

- Use RDTSC timing system;
- Triple Buffering;
- Sync to monitor refresh
- Use DirectDraw;
- Use Direct3D;
- Run in a Windows, also.

Thanks TRB... I'll check some of those settings next time I'm in Mame mode at home and see if I can identify what was causing the issue so that this can be noted somewhere under playback issues.

Darn this work thing getting in the way of game playing time!!!

TRB,

Unfortunately it wasn't any of those settings. However, with a bit more digging I've found that it was caused by having the highscore.dat file in the Mame directory.

I've now worked around this by adding the following lines to the relevant sections of the record.bat and the playback.bat files:

Code: Select all

Before the line for starting Mame: move hiscore.dat hiscore.bak

After the line for starting Mame: move hiscore.bak hiscore.dat

nice find, older mames like 106 are susceptible of changing the states when hiscore.dat is modified by a previous run then read by the new. THe 307k recording works fine!

Main reason hiscore.dat support was removed from MAME was that it fiddled with the emulated system's RAM and caused bugs.

I can play back recording of wolf106 without any problems what so ever.

It's the newer versons of Mame is the problem once the file has been named. Or i start playing a different game.
