lol!!
HI GENTLEMEN!!!
at the time of posting i was very frustrated for not being able to play back some inp's, as they are on older mame's, and maybe only work on an older operating system. i do not have any idea of what options i have, and everytime i try to download a new mame, i can't get it to work!
there are way too many mames on here!! sometimes it feels like 1 per game!!
be very lucky gents...

Your questions are a bit too non-specific, hard to give advice.

Maybe you should google "how to playback MAME inps" or search these forums for older messages?

Playbacking older inps can be tricky since often you also need older roms that may or may not be easy to find. The first step would of course be getting a game to work in certain MAME version...only after that to try playbacking recordings.

Now for help about roms I would prob direct your to MAWS, but nowadays closest I can find is "Midwives' Association of Washington State" - which doesn't really help much in that respect. 8O

Old MAME releases are available at http://mamedev.org/oldrel.html
DOS versions can be run via DOSBox.

WolfMAME and AlphaMAME releases can be found at http://wolfmame.marpirc.net/

hey guys,
thanks for the advice.
i currently use wolf .106, so i can watch at least 4 different mame's' inp's on that alone, it is just the older ones i cannot view, which is a shame. maybe one day.
there are too many mames'!! imagine the playstation with that many versions! "playstation 3 version 33.106" !!
i must ask, is there a benefit to using a dos version of mame? i mean, if there isn't, why would ayone ever use it? seems much to complicated. maybe thats how it all began...
be lucky, chaps.

MAME was a DOS-based project to start with, up until 0.37b15, when it switched to Windows. MAME was still buildable under MS-DOS up until about version 0.100. Only advantage to a DOS version might be speed, but with current PCs the speed difference would now be unnoticable.

In general, but not always, you can use MAME on different platforms (DOS, Windows, X11, Mac), it's mostly the MAME version that is important. ie: a MAME 0.60 INP should playback on MAME32 0.60, or X-MAME 0.60 or DOS MAME 0.60.

With more recent versions, compatibility across platforms is much greater, with an SDL-based core in the base source so that there are no source modifications between Windows, Linux, OS X, BSD and so on.
