help a newbie out

I'm trying to run my first playback. I really want to see how anyone can score 300k on venture so I'm trying to run the venture.inp file from the high score posted for venture version 5 set 1.

I download the mame version and the game, extract both into a mame folder, download the rom and put that into a rom folder within the mame folder.

I bring up a dos prompt and do C:\mame\mame32p87 venture - and the game comes up and runs. Fine. Creates a .cfg file and I rename that .tmp then go C:\mame\mame32p87 venture -playback venture Nothing happens. I try -pb venture and mame32p87 -playback venture.inp and all the combinations - still nothing. I even created an nvram file for the heck of it. nothing.

What am I doing wrong? Are the mame versions listed stripped down or something so I need to have a full mame of some kind in the same folder?

Mame32p87 is the gui executable. Just open the file in windows and press file-playback.

or trying using the commandline version mamep87.exe instead of mame32p87.exe with the same -playback venture option. it does actually playback with the GETMAME linked executable you can get from the marp page.

Try moving venture.inp from C:\mame\ to C:\mame\inp\
From there your exact command worked for me.

I don't think you should have to be renaming files and such.

Just creating an inp folder, putting the file in there and using

mame32p87 -playback venture worked perfectly.
