Moreno *did* forget to delete the memcard files off the memcard directory. There was NG bugs between W0.99 - W0.77. Once you start any NG games the CPU will automatically save memcard file in memcard. Any playback after W.100 will recognize 2 different sets if memcard are present or not. Any playbacks between W.99 to W.70 was not effective of memcard.
Skito, if you want to see Moreno's Kof2kXX replays. You'll have to add memcard file to order to see pb work.
NEW RULES: Mahlemiut has added the new rules in pb forum, NO MEMORY CARD ALLOWED!
Memory card acted like a load/save state files similar to NVRAM.
At least that I figure out how BBH's Lans2004 replays doesn't work if memcard exist that why there was two different sets after W.100.
Moreno! Please delete your memcard files and re-uploaded a new replays w/o memcard. I *really* hated to see some of your best KOF2k have to go.

To clarify a bit, with any version from wolf100 and up (and probably MAME Plus too), the presence of a memcard will cause playback problems for those that have no memcard present. This does not affect regular MAME at all.
Just delete the memcard.* files before recording, or use -memcard_directory NUL (or change it in mame.ini).
Memory cards are only used by some Neo Geo games.
