Hi Gerhard,
Your 33090 Waterballs recording does not playback for me - finishes on level 2! Does mine work for you?

Good good.
But it plays back to round 3 with normal settings, and to round 6 with
-noafs and -fs 0
I think this may be one of those games that will have playback problems -
Did you use mameip101 or mame32ip101?

I had same problem with this recording than with f1gp : failed to playback when using my usual directory (where all versions are), managed to playback the inp if I isolate the 101 version in a separate directory.
This problem seems to get usual ;
I also have this when playing back recent Destructor's inp on frontlin (117002)
f1gp-frontlin-watrball ...
what these games have in common ?
Note that without separating versions, I have no problem to playback a lot of inp ... so ?
where the problem is coming from, maybe we should search ; several pb problems could be due to that (not all I'm afraid, but I hate to know something is going wrong without knowing what's wrong)
I join a screen capture of my usual directory, maybe someone knows what could cause the problem ?

Could be a .cfg compatibility issue or something. Have you tried using -norc?

From chat :
<phiphi2> after several tries
<phiphi2> :
<phiphi2> -norc or erasing manually cfg file hasn't any effect for f1gp
<phiphi2> only isolation works
<phiphi2> for frontlin I also got a failure with -norc
<phiphi2> but erasing the frontlin.cfg works
<phiphi2> (by the way, I thought then when playbacking none cfg file was created)
<phiphi2> same for watrball
<mahlemiut> -norc stops parsing of ini files. I don't think it has any effect of .cfgs
<phiphi2> but I can't pb this one :
<phiphi2>

<phiphi2> not confirmed anyway, and desc box isn't very optimistic
Anybody for the last input ?

Exactly same score for me

I get the same result for Metrackle's score.
After doing some testing with Waterballs, recording and playing back seem to work consistently if I remove the .cfg file and use -noafs -fs 0.

Desync for me on stage 7 (even after erasing cfg, isolating exe file, etc ...)

I can't play it back at work, it seems. I'll try to figure out why this weekend and will remove it after that if I can't find a solution.
Maybe recording doesn't work before 0.102?

Can't play that recording back anywhere, it seems. After having reached the kill screen 4 more times with recordings that desync I won't put more time into it.

I can't playback any of the recent postings - they always desync after stage 6! Pity - as I'd love to see the point when the balls stop falling!
Could it be something to do with OS as with some other games (Raiden)?
I'm using Windows XP - is that the same OS as the recordings were made in?
Is the .WLF file supposed to help playback these recordings? If so, any ideas for using it to play them back?

The .wlf file contains MAME's game options structure, among other things. Some of these are set, according to the values stored in the .wlf file on playback (if you don't specify -override). The stucture can't be completely overwritten, as it also contains the inp file pointers too (these can be used to see which of the file-based options were used).
You can use wlfview to see what there is, including the recorded OS, CPU speed, and average recorded speed. I think I forgot to include it in 0.102, but the version from 0.101 works fine.

Kranser, try to isolate !
A directory with only your exe+dll files, 2 sub dir (one for the rom, one for the inp) ; that's the only way I got the 63k Abbe's recording to pb
