3 new rules to vote for, replacing previous mapping poll( the canceled one). These are general rules. Game specific special rules can override these, if necessary.
I hope here only votes, and discussion elsewhere as at diagonals thread.

********************************
1.

Code: Select all

1.) At Marp, it is not permitted to use more than one key or button in MAME for the same arcade machine button simultaneously.

Example1: You map keys Q,W,E,R,T,Y to hypersports running button 1 and smash them simultaneously, to get unhuman button pushing speed ---NOT OK
Example2: You map 2 buttons and joystick to hypersports running buttons...you use joystick at all events, except at skeets you use buttons.(you don't use joystick and buttons same time) ---ok
Example3: At Tron you use analog joystick for movement, but at lightcycles you use keyboard ---ok
This rule has ALLWAYS been in use at MARP, it just has not been written down at the rules page

********************************
2.

Code: Select all

2.) Mapping two or more of the original arcade machine's buttons to a single key or joystick button in MAME is not permitted.

Example1: At fighter, you map mame buttons 1 and 2 and 3 to keyboard key Q, so you can make a special move with 100% accuracy by pushing only one button --- NOT OK
Example2: At hypersports you map both 2 running buttons to keyboard key Q, you get 2 pushes at game by pushing Q once ---NOT OK
This rule has ALLWAYS been in use at MARP, it just has not been written down at the rules page before

*************************************
3.

Code: Select all

3.)...However, it is allowed to map same key to 2 joystick directions. This way diagonal movement/fire can be achieved very easy using keyboard.

Example1: At fighter, you map key Q to joystick up and joystick left..this way when you press Q, you get a diagonal with 100% accuracy---ok
This kind of mapping has not really been allowed at MARP before...neither clearly denied.. It is understandable if some have been using such mapping. Bad thing about this rule is that using keyboard and this mapping is MUCH better than using arcade stick or joypad, at fighting games

************************************
2. If MAME's goal, as Nicola Salmoria has stated, is to emulate the arcade game as closely as possible, then MARP's goal is to emulate the experience of "watching a virtual master play an arcade game", true to the arcade experience, as closely as possible.

You must give your MARP USERNAME or login with your votes.

You must have submitted at marp before 20th of March to be eligible to vote.
Say YES, if you want new rule
Say NO, if you don't want new rule

This poll runs 6 days starting at date of this post

Thank you for your votes,

Tommi

2. Yes
3. No

ie: No kind of remapping allowed other than changing the button layout to a more comfortable layout or one that avoids ghosting/collisions on your keyboard where that remapping is one key to another different and unused key as many times as necessary to achieve the desired layout with the same number of button presses required as was required on the original arcade games to achieve the desired combo move/shot or direction.
