MARP Tournament - Four Day Warning to Vote & Other things

Post by Gameboy9 »

Well... I guess that's enough said... four days left to vote - ends June 30th at 2359 GMT, 7:59pm Eastern Time. Vote on any MARP Tournament thread... I'll get it in due time.

BTW... you can still play if you don't vote, I'm saying that to make sure everyone knows this.

We also have to determine which scoreboard we're going to use.
A. 30-20-15-11-8-6-4-3-2-1(Donut's Suggestion)
B. Straight place ranking scoreboard, worst gets 1, next to worst gets 2, 3rd worst gets 3, etc.(Aquatarkus's Suggestion)
C. Ditto B, except first place gets an extra 4 points, second gets an extra 2 points, and third gets an extra one point.(My suggestion)

If anyone cares, my dad voted B... but I guess that vote doesn't count does it? (he hates video games...)

What does count is my vote, which is B... which makes that 2-0 (I'm counting Pat's vote)

I'm still tilting to MAME 35 RC 2... but am still leaving MAME 34 final open. I can easily tilt toward using both. I really don't think we should have a use just any MAME possible, because it would be very difficult for the judges to find every MAME version, which the MARP doesn't have.

Still trying to find TG Settings... I'm now trying Walter Day himself... so I guess it's TG Settings or bust now. :)

I'll see yall later. :)

Forgot something... in any leaderboard case, if you don't have a
recording, you get a zero for that game.

I vote for option B as far as the scoring goes.

Also, I believe that it wouldn't be too much of a hardship to use
both MAME 34 final as well as the latest beta. The tourney is going
to last 3 months and the unfortunate part of that is that there will
always be a newer beta to use. Using MAME 34 final for all games that
are functional under that version seems to be the most logical
choice, unless someone can find a reason why this is a bad choice.
Judging by the games that seem to be shaping up as our choices, it
looks like the MAME 34 final should be workable under most cases.

Have we discussed the possibility of ties? I bring this up because F-
1 Dream will definitely come under this question. I know it's the top
ranked game at this moment, but we may have to drop it for practical
reasons.

This is a good point JoustGod, but with the place ranking system,
easily tie-breakable. Add up the times of all the races to break any
tie. Or we can just call it a tie and move on... I like the former
better...

Chris,

Look at http://www.snipercade.com/cubeman/tgts.txt

In there it addresses most of the games in question. If
there are games missing still email me. I'll look over
your list again to make sure.

GB, I have to disagree with adding times of races, as that isn't how
the TG recognize the scores for that game.

GB, I personally think that for ties we simply consider them ties is
the only approach. If 3 people get the same score - say 1st place -
then they would each get (1st + 2nd + 3rd) / 3 points and the next
best person would get 4th place points.

ie: Treat it the same as golf prize moneys - except we'll drop the
idea of a playoff if there is a tie for 1st place. We're big enough
to live with a draw - aren't we?! Besides, who says there has to
always be a winner. ;-)

OK... sounds good to me... we'll count ties as ties. :)

Another clear example that everyone makes the rules :)

OK... I'll shut up now :)

In essence, F-1 Dream will be rendered rather useless for the fact
that it will see a great deal of tie scores. We need to stay away
from the "easy-to-tie" type games...i.e. any bowling games. It
appears that we have enough "e-t-t" type games in MAME that we could
have an "everyone wins" tournament...let's see, here's the game list:

Dominos
Battle Lane
Comotion
Coors Light Bowling
Fax
Lazer Command
Meadows Lanes
Shuuz
Bowl-O-Rama
Blockade

My tongue was planted firmly in my cheek, of course!

JG,

A good point and I for one when I voted for F1 Dream was not aware
that it had a "maximum point" score.

So GB, please take my vote away from F1 Dream and give it to River
Patrol instead.

River Patrol, eh? heh heh heh. Hey, btwbj, why have you reduced all
of our names to initials but choose to have your full name remain?
Hmmmm? ;)

ok bj, jg, and all other initialed people, I'm replacing my F1 Dream
two voter.

I'll make my new two voter a costly one! Money Puzzle Exchanger,
solo play - my very first high score came from there :)

JG,

I guess I shorten them because:

1) I'm basically lazy a shorten things when I can.
2) BJ and BeeJay are the same when spoken.
3) I'm so used to typing BeeJay it doesn't take long to flow off the
keyboard.

I'd vote for A...since not everyone's gonna play every game. (Like
me, if you still include Tempest, I will shy away from it...this game
scares me in places...) This way, we have an equal point system for
all the many games we'll have. I mean, if 15 players play Tempest
and 16 play Gyruss, first place will be different for the two games.
If we use A, we'll get an equal scoring system and no controversy.
We can always alter it to score more players, but some variation of A
I'll do.
Also, I'd like to change another vote. Since F-1 Dream is too
controversial, I'd like to change my vote from that to
Cabal...(bootleg, unless original works soon)

SportsDude,

You're wrong about the scoring. If there are 16 players then 1st
place would always get 16 pts. If only 15 play a game then the one
that doesn't submit a score gets a goose egg, and everyone else gets
16 down through 2 pts. No one gets a score of 1 pt. Make sense?
