Well here's my thinking. As usual, feel free to flame me, as these rules probably stink. I'll pick up the numbering at #9, since the last technical rules section stopped at #8.
9. Each championship will last eight competitions, or "races".
10. Each race begins on the 1st of a particular month.
11. No more than one race will be held in a particular month.
12a. Each race will be split up into five equally timed segments, or "laps", so each lap would last 2-4 days. (10-20 days / 5)
12b. Exception: the final lap, which could be extended due to rule #8.
13. If you are leading the competition at the end of each particular segment, you will be given credit for leading a lap.
14. Scoring system:
1st = 21 pts
2nd = 15 pts
3rd = 10 pts
4th = 6 pts
5th = 4 pts
6th = 2 pts
7th = 1 pt
Leading 1 or more laps = 1 pt
Leading most laps = 1 pt (+1 pt for leading a lap = 2 pts)
Leading all laps = 1 pt (+1 pt for leading a lap + 1 pt for leading the most laps = 3 pts)
This system is going to encourage the showing of progress instead of waiting until the end to snipe all the opponents away, but hopefully isn't worth too many points to shy away people who can't keep updating every 2-4 days.
Again, feel free to say evil things about these thoughts. But at least we have a test round so you can see how this works...

Re: More technical rules involving a series of competitions
I've always wanted to bring this up when people brought up this option for competitions; what's to stop anyone from sniping the "laps"?gameboy9 wrote:This system is going to encourage the showing of progress instead of waiting until the end to snipe all the opponents away, but hopefully isn't worth too many points to shy away people who can't keep updating every 2-4 days.
You're right Joey... I'm going to try to allow sniping for now... this reason for keeping it out, honestly, is that I'm trying to keep the rules from getting too complex.
But if we see abuse of this or the public finds that it could be better just without sniping, I'd try this:
You may only submit a recording in the last 3 hours of a lap only once, and get credit for leading a lap, with the exception of the final lap. (because the penalty is different)
Example: (0000 GMT is the end of a non-final lap)
Player A submits a first-place recording at 2200 GMT.
Player B submits a first-place recording at 2300 GMT and wins the lap.
Both players can't snipe anymore for the rest of the race and get credit for leading a lap (except the final lap), even though Player A lost this battle.
What do you think? Should we have this rule, or should we modify it a little (like Player A can snipe again, because Player A lost), or should we... not have this rule?
