playbak games in mame v0.65

Post by livez »

Hi
Kinda new to the mame scene, and I was wondering how I playback recorded games. when I click input recorded game in mame and choose the file, the game starts as normal, without any recording or anything... how do I get the recording to start??

I will assume you are using the mame32 gui. If you hit File->PlayAndRecordInput on the game you want to play, you actually ARE recording the game from the moment mame starts in record mode, all your inputs get stored in that file while you play untill you hit ESC. so when you are done with the game you can go into File->PlaybackInput on the file you just recorded and it should playback exactally (in theory) what you just did to record. There are several problem with playingback recordings, sometimes they don't always playback the same way they were recorded. The main thing to think of is you have to playback the recording with the same settings you recored with. And something less intuitive is you must deleted your mame/nvram sub directory before each recording to ensure proper playback. The most handy way to do this is to create a nvram "file" with no extension so mame never gets the chance to recreate this playback havoc creating subdirectory. If there are any other questions just shoot!

recorded games #2

When I press playback input and choose file, the game starts as normal. Ive tried with several games. do you have to use the exact same mame version as in the recording?

sometimes you can use different versions to playback, but usually not. always good to remember the mame version you recorded with. There are other links that can help at marp in the "Help" banner link but they are pretty old, the latest help is from the sticky links in this forum, but they are pretty disorganized as i am.

yep, totally, that is what this site is for to playback the awesome recordings. Check the "GET MAME" link and it should automatically download the version used to record that entry. If you need any help playing back one in particular this is the forum to post :)
