Searching for prototypes

Post by Mark Longridge »

Is there any way to look for prototypes? Certain games are described as Game123 (prototype). Is it possible to search marp for scores on these types of games?

Right, that works. I was trying "*prototype", and of course it didn't
work. Thanks.

<B>A lesson in searching the MARP database...</B>
<P>
FYI, it turns out that you can use '%' in a search string to mean 'any number of characters', so searching for
<P>
<PRE>
loud%prototype
</PRE>
finds "Cloud 9 (prototype)" recordings.
<P>
You can also put a '^' at the beginning of your search and/or a '$' at the end to ensure that the string you search for matches at the beginning and/or end of the field you are matching. For example, searching for
<P>
<PRE>
^a%e%i%o%u$
</PRE>
<P>
will find the only game whose name begins with an 'a', ends with a 'u' and contains all the vowels in alphabetical order. It is, of course, the famous "Aggressors of Dark Kombat / Tsuukai GANGAN Koushinkyoku". :o)
