Bloody Windows Millennium, HELP!!!

Post by Game Guru (@work!) »

Ive just built a new machine as follows:

Pentium 3 1ghz, 512mb pc133, gforce2 graphics card, gigabyte motherboard, 30 gig ide drive and a scsi writer... os: Windows ME..

When I got into DOS I get an illegal operation in a small grey box! :(

However, sometimes it works...???

Can anybody give me any clues??? (Apart from using mame32 or removing ME) I had DOS Mame running on my old machine with no problem, also I need to use DOS for other applications..

Thanx in advance!!

GG,

Your best option is to do the same as a lot of people I know who have
recently got new machines with WindowsME pre-installed:

1) Get Win98SE and it's boot disk.
2) Boot from this floppy.
3) Run FDISK to reformat your drive.
4) Boot from that floppy again and choose the install option.
5) Enjoy a much better system with full DOS support.

It's what I've just recently done on my machine - although in my case
I was getting sick of Win95 crashes and upgraded. Mind you, in your
case it could probably be considered an upgrade as well.

Of course, with that grunty a box most games will probably run ok
under Mame32 anyway - although MameDOS does do scrolling games better
with less problems with tearing during fast scrolling.
