tron, tron2

Post by giro-X »

In my mission, under request by Colman to verify his latest score on tron2
http://replay.marpirc.net/inp/a/f/a/dyo ... olf106.zip tron2 1052364 wolf106
http://replay.marpirc.net/r/tron2
I found out that I am not able to launch the game. Tron (set 1) was playbacked/confirmed by me, Tron (set 3) was playbacked/confirmed by Barry, Tron (set 4) was playbacked/confirmed by Chad. I wondered how it was possible that only Tron (set 2) couldn't be played and discovered this from mameinfo.dat
WIP:
- 0.128u4: Tim Lindquist added dates to Tron revisions. Swapped tron/tron2 now that we know tron2 is the later version. Changed clone '(set 2)' to parent 'Tron (8/9)', 'Tron (set 1)' to clone 'Tron (6/25)', 'Tron (set 3)' to 'Tron (6/17)' and 'Tron (set 4)' to 'Tron (6/15)'. Renamed (tron) to (tron2) and (tron2) to (tron).
Doesn't explain me how I could still playback the 0.106 tron with the 0.156 tron romset, but explains the first issue.

So, even if we manage to playback Colman's score, is it a "tron2" score or a "tron" score? Usually when a romset name is changed, then the recordings sent to MARP also are moved (see arkretrn scores passed to arkretrnj as World version was added - that's an example).

If you merge the ROMs for both sets into tron.zip, then it should load the correct ROMs needed in either version. For zipped romsets, filenames are irrelevant, MAME will load them by their CRC.

If he recorded tron2 in 0.106, then it should be moved to tron, and if he recorded tron in 0.106 then it should be moved to tron2.

...another good reason to use more recent MAME versions whereever possible. ;)

Ok, I restarted the procedure and got it to work, confirmed. Takes a big pause of ~1hr15min at 745K, but it ends also at claimed score :)
Still remains the tron/tron2 issue, on which I have no power. Colman has been alerted sooooo maybe for future recordings he will jump to 0.156
