The only problem with going 'levels' is they aren't really discretely
defined, and you sometimes go back and forth through them. The only
alternative I can think of is 'number of bosses killed.' (Which would
mean Hisa's recording didn't get max because he actually skips a
section, but I'm sure he could manage the extra quest.)

But Hisa's recording brings up another issue -- leeching. He spends a
great deal of time -- something like 15 minutes of it -- sitting
around whomping enemies to build up experience. (So under the current
scoring system he gets the 'max score' only halfway through the game,
so it definitely should be different from xp.) The only thing is,
since this is rpg-like, what counts as leeching in this game? Most
rpgs do feature some amount of level-building.

(BTW, I do think Hisa does clear-cut leeching in his King of Dragons
recording and that one should be removed. He keeps killing enemies in
one room and running out of time but he gets enough points to get
extra lives at the same time.)

Jdb: The leeching factor in games are always a "grey zone" (quoting
Brian mclean:) I mean If Hisa leech for a long time and hen finish
the game itB4s ok for me, but If he doesnB4t then itB4s not ok I think..
ItB4s more like getting the most points out of a game and then finish
it! In kod he leech to get maxlevel... and in cadash he does the same
thing..

Ok itB4s rather boring o watch it, but compare it to Arkanoid II (Even
allowed on t4) where noone finished the game.. and the scores was
about 900k! and 90% of the points came from level5.. thatB4s leeching
I think..

But as I just said.. C
tB4s a greay zone indeed!

Anyway comments are always welcome:)

Reasonable system: ALL SCORES admit if he finish the game.
All scores disqualified if he cannot finish.
It should apply not only RPG but all shootings, actions, and puzzles which has ending.
maybe all replayers will against this opinion...

Remember that there aren't a lot of MARPers, Hisa, and we're not able
to finish every game we touch. The quality would be higher if we
stuck to that standard, for certain, but we'd also be turning away a
lot of people for want of the ability to finish any games. That can't
be much good for the site...

Since I'm rambling, Hisa, do you know where I can purchase back
issues of Gamest or even the newer magazine that has taken over (the
name slips my mind at the moment)? I've always had some desire to see
it, and it would probably motivate me to continue my Japanese
studies...

"Reasonable" system?

While I'm one of the most ardent supporters of the one-credit finish,
there is no way I would want to see MARP be restricted to that. The
great thing about MARP is that anyone can come along and upload any
score they want (provided the recording plays back to the posted
score). Requiring that games always reach the end would result in a
lot less uploads, and less interest and participation in MARP. Do we
really want that to happen?

A suggestion, Hisa - stop obsessing over what the world records are
and how your scores compare, and get back to playing games for what
they were meant for - FUN.
