Hot Chase
Just a public notice of special rules for this game.
As has been recently pointed out by Kale here, all recordings made for this game with any version of MAME prior to 0.143 were played at an incorrect slower speed. From this point out, only recordings done on 0.143 or newer will be accepted.
The following recordings were affected and have been zeroed out (they are generally still downloadable if anyone wants to see them):

Re: Hot Chase
fwiw, emulation is still not 100% perfect, trying to get correct irq firing for that is pretty much a bitch without HW tests (there's your usual Konami "80s style internal clock" device in the schematics that doesn't help at all). But, for sure right now records can be compared with the real thing, there are just some minor transitions that doesn't convince at all.GHEMANT wrote:Confirmed score or not confirmed score is not important. If the game not have a good emulation, the score is only transitional and not definitive. When a game have finally 100% good emulation, all previous score must be deleted or zeroed.
Hot Chase have a better emulation only from wolf 0.143, but i'm not sure if now emulation is 100% the same of real arcade. Is possible speak about WR only when the game is the same of real arcade
Re: Hot Chase
Nice to heard that, i always told Zid that this game wasn't at the correct speed

Done with 0.106, apparently. Am I going to add a spanish translation for the special rules or what?

Re: Hot Chase
I don't think it's due to lack of translation. Those competing at Retrovicio 2012 believe the emulation fixes to be incorrect to the true emulation.

I've never seen a real hot chase arcade, so I can't comment, but here is one datapoint of evidence that was brought to my attention
MAME 106 (from time 55 to time 47 = approximately 11 seconds)
MAME 147 (from time 55 to time 47 = 8 seconds!! Approximately)
ORIGINAL ARCADE (from time 55 to time 47 = 11 seconds approximately)
Can someone confirm or deny this datapoint? Kale? There are dip switches that could be a cause for different emulation speeds/difficulty, but they are unlabeled in 106. But I suspect something in later mame has changed a critical clock speed that was intended to be correct but might have been not so, if they were not comparing to a true arcade machine.

Re: Hot Chase
To be honest, I really fail to understand what I should look at in these snapshots. And that doesn't mean I don't want to fix it.
Re: Hot Chase
The snapshots are apparently snapshots from videos taken at the same time in gameplay [ between game clock 00:55 to 00:47 ] for wolf106, wolf147, and real arcade recordings. Apparently the game clock is ticking faster in wolf147 verses the real arcade. If the snapshots are not tampered with. Then they prove the real arcade is not acting like the latest wolf147 emulation. OR the latest wolf147 has different dip switch settings compared to the arcade machine in the snap shot.Kale wrote:To be honest, I really fail to understand what I should look at in these snapshots. Re: Hot Chase
Invalid bug report then.
Arino (which is known to suck ass in videogames in general) might have either missed to accelerate at start (it's his first play I believe) or crashed while playing. The three shots on the windshield proves that it's not a *good* play, in any way. And well, you can't prove otherwise because it isn't a full run anyway.
I also take into account that it was tested on an original PCB that the gameplay speed was indeed too slow, and it was proven by Stefan Lindberg here -> http://www.mametesters.org/view.php?id=825. I think that his word counts more than a random guy on the internet like Zidevs, due of common sense, seriousness of the guys in question and interests behind it.
PS: If somebody wants to donate me an original PCB I'm more than glad to do PCB tests. It's possible that right now it's slightly faster, but I need REAL facts that proves it, not random talking on the issue that brings to nowhere.

Re: Hot Chase
Kale, I know you're a good developer and contributor of mamedev and a great arcade player. For that reason, I think you can easily see that the game is too fast. For example, a simple reason:
I've played thousands of times this game in my childhood and I know that the seconds of the original arcade machine are not real seconds. In version 106 emulation is identical to the arcade version, but in version 147 the game seconds are equal to real seconds and that's a big mistake. Also there are many bugs along the game, cars and helicopters disappear. This only occurs in the 147 version but not in version 106. If you want I can make a video of a big bug that only appears in version 147 and never appeared in the original arcade machine or in the 106 version.
Greetings.

Re: Hot Chase
You were playing an original PCB, or a bootleg one? Speed can differ on bootlegs, just ask anyone who thinks that Double Dragon isn't supposed to slow down.

Original PCB of course.
Re: Hot Chase
So explain how Stefan gets a different speed then...PAC-MAN wrote:Original PCB of course.

Re: Hot Chase
I can explain with this:
Here is the correct speed:
8 seconds in arcade = 11 seconds in the real time! See the video:
http://youtu.be/UsxMOKfe3S0?t=13m20s
Mame 147 ---> 8 seconds in arcade = 8 seconds in the real time (you do not even have time to put your name, check it!)
I can put my name in the leaderboard easily in wolfmame 106 like in the original arcade. But in 147 version:

Re: Hot Chase
Could there be a dip switch that makes something faster that was set to slow in some (PAC's) pcb and fast in stefan's?

Re: Hot Chase
Chad, I dont have PCB, the good PCB is in the video of Gamecenter and its slower that wolfmame 147 version! Please, see the video!!!! And try to put the name in the leaderboard of Hot Chase with version 147 is impossible!!!!!!!
Evidences:
In the Gamecenter video and mame 106 version: Speed normal (like mame 106 version!!!), no bugs, can put the name!!!!
In the mame 147 version: many bugs, bad conduction, too fast, you cant put the name!!!!!!!!
