Re: galap1
Yup, I clearly appear to have 200K potential... but I'll have to get there an inch at a time.
Problem is that I stay well cool until I realize I'm getting in the sights of improving my record... and from there it's a choke festival
Of course it always takes longer to realize I'm getting close to the record, so I manage to squeeze some more... and then some more... and so on
As per PacWhiz's comment on his 222220 galaxiaj score - I also still play that clone, but I usually tend to play more the clones where my records are lower, and galaxiaj was the one where I basically killed three ships in a minute of play, almost crashing asleep on the laptop, while getting over 140K when I still had to break 100K on other clones... I'll be back on that too !

Best of luck!!Alessandro.S wrote:Yup, I clearly appear to have 200K potential... but I'll have to get there an inch at a time.

Uh-oh! Maybe put some black tape or something non-sticky over the score so you don't see it while you're playingAlessandro.S wrote:Problem is that I stay well cool until I realize I'm getting in the sights of improving my record... and from there it's a choke festival![]()

Cool! Glad somebody at least still plays galaxiajAlessandro.S wrote:Of course it always takes longer to realize I'm getting close to the record, so I manage to squeeze some more... and then some more... and so on![]()

That's the version they have at FunSpot in New Hampshire... but Perry Rodgers brings his own board, which is a galaxian board, with him when he comes there, so that's pretty darn cool of him!

Galaxiaj is the only game where i have a higher arcade score than on Mame

It is, perhaps, not a good idea tho, to switch between galaxian & galaxiaj too often if you're going for your hiscore

Adios & gL

Re: galap1
Interesting
I haven't noticed differences in bullets between galaxian and galaxiaj, whereas I definitely have to play a different game on galmidw, which *seems* to have bullets coming down slightly faster - dodging them while moving all the way sideways (either to the left or to the right) is much more frequently fatal than with other clones... for me at least
galaxbsf starts off more aggressive, but then I think it levels out as other clones do.
Heh... taping a laptop to avoid seeing where I am - could be an idea, but then again I _want_ to learn to keep cool even if I know I'm approaching my best score

Re: galap1
That's a lot of different versions there Alessandro!
I have enough trouble switching between 2 versions let alone 4!
Coz you keep having to think of which version you're playing.
I'm sticking to 'galaxian' til i get that 1M, and then i'll concentrate on galaxiaj
I haven't played galmidw or galaxbsf yet... but maybe i never will
Well good luck once again, and remember to keep cool when approaching hiscores

Re: galap1
Heh, this time in galaxian I did keep cool - to the point that when my first ship died I was exhausted by constant concentration... I wonder how do you do it PacWhiz
Second ship crashed due to a mistaken decision on my behalf, third and fourth killed by my right arrow key refusing to move the ship away from enemy fire... damn ! I was very tired, but I had a chance to approach 300K...
When I started this 200K+ game I was absolutely mad at galaxian, as I played three times over 120K in two days, including one at 136K and always dying in a stupid way with my last ship when I was just going smooth and cool - not by choking but making overconfidence mistakes... this time I just told myself "you DON'T have to get that 800 points, there's going to be more chances later, just _survive_ FFS !".
Well... it worked
and I stayed much more central than usual, as per PacWhiz replays and Gary Whelan's advices
I'll try going back to galap1 now and see if I can repeat myself at these levels

246k well done! If you got 210k on your 1st ship that's pretty darn good...Alessandro.S wrote:Heh, this time in galaxian I did keep cool - to the point that when my first ship died I was exhausted by constant concentration... I wonder how do you do it PacWhiz![]()

I wasn't missing any ships from my fleet tho, so it musta been your own

I know what you mean about the constant concentration, happens to me a lot too that i have a great 1st life and then just completely botch the rest of the game because the concentration has been disturbed by losing a ship, and by the disgust at the way you got killed!

I do the same thing you describe all the time:Alessandro.S wrote: When I started this 200K+ game I was absolutely mad at galaxian, as I played three times over 120K in two days, including one at 136K and always dying in a stupid way with my last ship when I was just going smooth and cool - not by choking but making overconfidence mistakes... this time I just told myself "you DON'T have to get that 800 points, there's going to be more chances later, just _survive_ FFS !".

Forgetting to stay central & especially the overconfident mistakes when trying to get those extra 800s. I'm glad my inps were useful to you tho

Well if you're getting above 200k then you're well on your way to being in control of the game...Alessandro.S wrote: I'll try going back to galap1 now and see if I can repeat myself at these levels
the tough part, as you've already stated, is keeping sustained concentration over a long period of time; coz after a while your eyes start to look like this --->

Good Luck again Alessandro

Re: galap1
Never seen anything like that ! What did you do, go make yourself a sandwich ? Who needs the 'P' key !!
Very cool
As per the gameplay, it's embarrassing how easy you make the game look... it's like you're playing one-handed while gardening with the other hand. I struggle to avoid bullets while your ship just breezes elegantly through.
I couldn't reach that level even if I played for ten years ! Anyhow I'm very happy to be listed now among the best players, apart from the really few Galaxian gods

I went to get a snack, yup lol.Alessandro.S wrote:Never seen anything like that ! What did you do, go make yourself a sandwich ? Who needs the 'P' key !!
I first tried that trick somewhere on level 40 or 50, and on those levels if you get them into that no-fire position, they will start opening fire again after 5 minutes.
But apparently on the earlier levels, it takes a lot longer...
I wasn't patient enough to go beyond 14 minutes; but maybe they will stay stuck like that indefinitely

LOL!Alessandro.S wrote: Very cool![]()

I hate gardening tho

Re: galap1
Woohoo ! SUPERPLAY !!
As I said, there's good players - and then there's Galaxian Gods
I honestly was just waiting for this to happen... damnit, I'll have to start playing the main romset again, I wanted to get on top of galap1 (and had a 180K last night) - but I guess it's a higher priority to stay within a million points from the top of the galaxian romset
I will reserve some time in the XMas holidays to watch the .inp... four hours, that's an unbelievable amount of concentration poured into the game. I'll likely get tired _watching_ it
Well, time for Gary Whelan to get back seriously to the game !
Again, a well-deserved round of applause for the exceptional achievement.

Re: galap1
Thx BeeJay & Alessandro,
very kind of you
I did have a headache after the game, from concentrating for 4 hrs,
but it was worth it in the end i guess hmm
Recap coming soon, but i dunno if i wanna make note of how many 800s i scored this time, coz i'd have to do it for all 675 yellow flagships i shot down lol.
Just realized i shot down 15½ thousand of those little alien buggers
I might get the chair for genocide...
