Deca2000 results using MARP style leaderboard

Post by BeeJay »

For those who may/may not be interested, here are the top 10 players from Deca2000 using a MARP style Tournament Scoring system.

In my case I was significantly better off than I anticipated with the % scoring system mainly due to the lack of affect the % scoring system had on Track 'n Field. However, with a large number of people between me and 1st place on this game my reasonable % points became totally crap on a MARP style leaderboard. Of course, had it been a MARP style tournament I would probably have put more effort into TnF as it would have been worth more points wise. :)

Players by leader board points using MARP tournament scoring system

Player name L/B points
Phil Chapman 555 (92.50%)
Alvaro Marques 520 (86.67%)
John Rhodes 516 (86.00%)
Jim Lang 515 (85.83%)
Andrew Bornstein 508 (84.67%)
Brian Johnstone 504 (84.00%)
Neil Chapman 483 (80.50%)
Ben Jos Walbeehm 478 (79.67%)
Richard Long 470 (78.33%)
Kenneth Thomas 448 (74.67%)

Of course, this table will look crap in emails so read it online if you want a better formatting.

PS: I will definitely not be making an appearance at T4 as I've reached burn-out point as far as playing games or Tournaments are concerned and will be enjoying a couple of months of seldom playing any Mame games !!!! No I'm not feeling sick like my wife suggested.

I noticed that at the end, my Frogger submission really jumbled up the
standings. I recall Jim Lang firmly held 2nd place, but since he
held the prior high score, he took quite a hit dropping him to fifth
place! The eventual 2nd, 3rd, and 4th players--yourself, JoustGod, and
Neil Chapman, were not impacted nearly as much since they hadn't
scored as high. The same thing happened when the Bubble Bobble and
Tapper high scores were removed. A player should not have this
dramatic sort of impact. This is exactly why I dislike straight
percentage based scoring...

So I guess you can thank me for helping you get 2nd! But really,
congrats to you, and the others for a great show of skills!!

Pat,

Actually I already had 2nd place before you submitted your Frogger
score but you did help JoustGod into 3rd place with your submission
and I agree 1 person totally owning a game has too much impact on the
final outcome. That's why I was desparately trying for the last few
days to reclaim my old Time Pilot skills and take that game to a few
million if possible - but is it really fair that me doing that on one
game would have leap-frogged me over a player who on the whole did
better than me across the games? I think not!! Hopefully next
year's tournament will not use the percentage scoring but if it does
then there's no hope for the rest of us if one person manages to own
a couple of games and is reasonable across the rest.

Actually, I'm rather embarassed to say when I was processing the raw
scores from file I failed to process the final score for each game.
Therefore there were actually 61 participants and the final scores
from a MARP Tournament scoring system should have been as follows -
not that there's much difference in overall placings and differences
until you get to around 15th spot anyway:
