TOURNAMENT 9 (with a twist) - TIME TO VOTE FOR GAMES

Post by Chad »

Please submit your marp login id/name and up to four (4) games [in mamename format] that you would like for T9. If you have a marp id and have submited a marp recording you are eligible. If you know enough about the game, please submit special rules/clones that might make the competition more fun. If you know the game type, please append it (e.g. platform, puzzle, fighter, shooter, etc.) You may search through this page for mamename games which will not be allowed (see below). I'm tempted to exclude "golden era" used games but i probably will allow them, since they are the coolest :) but i might exclude ones used very recently.

The voting will close March 31rst 00:00:00 GMT, after which the top games will be randomly chosen from the votes and we will debate to find which ones (and settings) are the 8 which will be played. The 8 games will be chosen from the random order for a diverse set of tournament games with distinct types. T9 will be played during the 8 weeks starting April 5th 00:00:00 GMT and ending May 30th 00:00:00 GMT. Players can use wolfmame94, and hopefully an xwolfmame version if the 94 xmame source comes out.

NEW TWIST : There will be one EXTRA game randomly chosen from the remaining voted games that will be included in the tournament scoring. This EXTRA game will be played by all tournament competetors in a 24 hour period near the end of the tournament. The points gathered by it will be the same as other games for scoring up to 100 points; so there will be a total of 900 potential points (8+1 games) if you are 1rst in all games. The twist comes in where the game will be revealed ONLY at the start of this 24 hour period (0-0 GMT). It goes with out saying that this day should be available for all competitors to play on. Thus, I will post a poll (mid tournament) listing the last 7 days of the tournament, and players can vote on which days they would be unable to compete, and i will schedule the day where everyone can compete.

It seems cool... but I don't know if I will be able to play this tournament. If yes, this will be my 1st, due I am new on MARP and played only WCC4 and WCC5 still now.

Well... I think the WCC5 games are unvotable too. Is it correct?

I would presume so.

My votes:
Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge (US 950406) [nwarr] (Capcom, 1995, fighter)
Varth: Operation Thunderstorm (World 920612) [varth] (Capcom, 1992, shooter)
Shock Troopers (set 2) [shocktra] (Saurus, 1997, human shooter - you know, like Commando)
Naname de Magic! [naname] (Atlus, 1994, puzzle)

Ok.

Is necessary different styles of the games? I tried to find Tournament rules, but not success... but I saw on TG board something concerning it.

No point in choosing the same games - they are chosen at random from those voted for.

i think qrs's post didn't see your post of shock troopers (unless the sets 1,2 are really different :), thus qrs has another game option to select from.

**EDIT** oh and TRB i also can't find the tournament rules anywhere, i remember them being somewhere but where they are now i can't find them. I'll try to write up something and stickyize it. If there is a specific question please ask. The distinguishing rules of the current tournament are described in the top post of this thread.

I voted for set 1 cause I prefer the lifebar that is "longer" than in set 2.. and ONE man only. In set 2 your lifebar goes down faster but you have 3 men. BBH can tell if there are more differences :)

If that is not enough to separate then as two different games I will come up with a new game :)

I'm not dead, but I'm unable to participate this year either.

Thunder Blaster (Japan) [thndblst] Shooter (vertical). Much tougher than the rather easy parent set Lethal Thunder (World).
Stack Columns (Japan) [stkclmns] Puzzle.
Robocop 2 (World) [robocop2] Brawler.
Xexex (World) [xexex] Shooter (horizontal).
