I'm surprised you don't split these by bios used..
really its no different to Mame having world, japan, us sets etc..
When the bios rom changes the way in which the game functions can also change... some of the games are very different when using alt roms (eg magical drop)
Just because in this case the rom that changes on the games is on the motherboard not the cart (and thus mame handles it slightly differently) doesn't seem like a good reason not to split it... competition is allowed on sets with far less differences

And then we could start splitting games based on regional DIP switches...
Splitting all Neogeo games based on the BIOS used would be a lot of work. Any game has the potential to lose sync with a different BIOS as it will likely be running different code as some point. And of course, some games do run slightly (or very) differently in different regions. We do remember the difference in handling on Neo Drift Out using US settings compared to the default Europe setting (this was before multiple BIOS support though).

True.. its hard to know where to draw the line... but the current method of splitting things isn't really fair either, players of games where manufacturers decided to release a single version with dipswitch/bios for all regions are being denied the chance to compete in multiple versions of the game.. while players of games where manufacturers released 20 verisons which are a single byte change in the actual roms get 20 sets to play with ...
IMO at least in cases where the dips / bios make a noticable difference to the gameplay the sets should be split.

Like we need another dozen 1500 point uploads on Fatal Fury Special from Gerhard.
Besides, I see that Magical Drop II puzzle (stage) mode is split. But I can't really think of many Neo Geo games where there is any great difference in gameplay. Neo Drift Out has easier handling, but that's really only a difficulty issue, not enough for a split.

Well, there certainly wasn't any difference in the first three stages - and do note that MAME didn't support different BIOSes back then, just a Territory DIP switch hack. The TJT wrote:more colours at bios that m35tg3bu1v2000 is using, same levels...but more colours => more difficult, kinda makes the game different. MORE BALLS!

Then there were more colours at later stages using m35tg. I'm not gonna start counting colours now to only prove myself being rightmahlemiut wrote: Well, there certainly wasn't any difference in the first three stages - and do note that MAME didn't support different BIOSes back then, just a Territory DIP switch hack.

"Territory dip switch" hack sounds same as bios hack, I'm sure there is some hidden meaning which makes it different though

Mahlemuit! The Puzzle De Pon Rom BIOS setting is not a hack. The US verison is exactly the same as I play in US. I don't know about the Europe/Japan version. Don't know about other Neo Geo games might have any type of rom hacks out there.
Should I re-submit the US version, again. Although, it still there in Marp page the score is under 100. You'll see some gameplay difference from there.
Puzzle de Pon R has no difference in any ROM BIOS setting.

Saw this thread regarding about Neo Geo Rom BIOS setting. I have submit a recording of Puzzle de Pon running on US BIOS about 4 months ago. US version is easier than Europe/Japan version. Just the same level layout with different color settings. I think that Japan version is slightly harder than Europe version.puzzle de pon?
