Just wondering if anyone knows a way to record a G2-game without level 6 allways beeing the same one "all walls are invisible" and order of the levels allways the same. They're so damn hard...This makes the game more equal for the tournament though.
<p>
Arcade game did start at level 6 on the last played level you died on previous game. In other words a new game continued from the last level previously played.
If you reseted the game (using the small switch in the back of the game), it started allways with the same "default" level(it was some other level as in mame though). At the end of the day they would turn the electricity off, and in the morning it still continued from the previous level died on. Exception to this was, when game just had been ended and then switched electricity off-then it would start at the default level at the morning...
<p>
So the game saves allways previously played game. It would be nice to have some easy "secret room"-level everytime you start. I thought this could be done with saving mame.cfg file and using it all the games you play.
<p>
Does gaunt2.cfg save only keyboard setup, since they are saved even when recording?
<p>
There might not be done anything for the default level when recording. If you recorded a game starting from level A, and someone would replay it but he's previously saved starting level would be x, then it wouldn't work. So they had to have same cfg files...
<p>
Is this right or?
<p>
ps. I've bought now all the tournament arcade games, since my mame/Mame/MAME test period of 24 hours just run out...

Gauntlet 2 starting level

I know that Gauntlet I saved the last level in RAM only. The
information was definetly lost when the power was shut off. I am
almost sure that gauntlet II works the same way.
<p>
It is very easy to add code to MAME to let the user select the level
on startup (for both gauntlet I and II) and save it in the inp file.
I even submitted such code to the MAME team about 18 months ago but
they did not like the idea.
<p>
For my own use I then patched the Gauntlet I ROMS to save the last
level in the EEPROM instead. I planned to do the same for Gauntlet II
but I never got the time to do it.

But G2 did save the last level played, even after shutdown... Mame saves this too: BBH has different levels in he's T3-entry than mine.
<p>
Any hints/cfg-files you could send me BBH?! , please. Would save me some work to figure it out myself-which I'll do anyway(I could give you couple of my precious hints in exchange). My default levels are currently deep down from...

huh? this whole "saved level" business is still confusing me, I'm not
sure what exactly is going on. How was my set of levels different? I
checked yours and the only differences seemed to be the ones that were
just "mirror images". Really, I'm not that big of an expert on the
game.
<p>
I'll gladly upload my .cfg file if you think it will help...

Well... being the judge on this game, and having seen quite a few of
recordings already, I'd say it's exactly as BBH says it is. There
really is no difference except that for some people the level is
mirrored. And, as far as I can tell, this simply depends on which one
of the many exits on a level you decide to take.
<p>
Cheers,
Ben Jos.
<p>
P.S. Since I own a HotRod, I can legally play Ghouls 'n Ghosts, so I
didn't have to buy it.
