T8 - BEGIN

Post by Chad »

It's time to start the 8th MARP tournament which will run from Saturday 22nd May 2004 00:00:01 GMT to Saturday 17th July 2004 00:00:01 GMT.
For this tournament, please use WolfMAME or xWolfMAME version 0.80 only. To participate submit your inp.ziped recordings on the Tournamnet Frame from http://marp.retrogames.com . and don't forget to add the "t8-" to the game name submission, but if you're at the right place the t8- should already be in the field where the game name is.

Below is the list of games that will be played, a current tournament score link, followed by the judge link, and settings to use when playing. The only special rules are for potogold (leprechaun clone) which are meant to stomp out potential leeching. Rules are fairly solid, but subject to change if major unfair advatanges are revealed.

t8-ohmygod : Oh My God! (Japan) Judge Metrackle
Default settings

t8-goal92 : Goal '92 Judge Frankie
Default settings

t8-rampage : Rampage (revision 3) Judge Gameboy9
Default settings

t8-wb3 : Wonder Boy III - Monster Lair (set 1) Judge Blost
Default settings

t8-zektor : Zektor (revision B) Judge TJT
Default settings

t8-doubledr : Double Dragon (Neo Geo) Judge Skito
Default settings

t8-xybots : Xybots (rev 2) Judge Xanadu
Default settings

t8-potogold : Pot of Gold Judge Francois
Time limit of 20 seconds for completing each level, starting when you appear and timer stoping when level is compelted or person dies.

Have fun !

Couple things:

Tournament page says: version to use wolf80 or 81, should be only wolf80. I confirmed JLR-DF's recording anyway, because it playbacked with wolf80.

Is there time limit for submission...I mean you'll have to submit within 48 hours after recording tournament inp or such?

I assume average recording speed should be over 95% ?
(If somebody submits recording at Zektor, which is well over 95 at early stages, but gets under 95 at harder and faster stages...I will not confirm that..because I'm a hard man)

For me search don't work for t8 games, it works only for Zektor, maybe it has something to do with me being a judge at the game...I emailed Zwaxy about it, error message included.

Thanks,
TJT

P.S. Nice score at Zektor Weehawk, you learn fast. Now I just have to "fight for it" :)

Yep, if not otherwise mentioned it's the same as last time. 48 hours after recording made it must be submited or it will be disqualified, exceptions are ONLY if the site goes down. Point system is 100 for first, 99 for second, etc. so maximum possible points is 800. And wolf80 only, ALREADY HAD one problem where a recording made in wolf81 DOESNT work with wolf80, so let's keep it all one version wolf80 only, thanks. It was lucky zwaxy made that message anyway at the time i sent him the info was earlier. 95% or more average recording is only acceptable. So in theory if they average 80% in the last 20% and 100% in the first 80%, then they'd get 96% and be "ok".

Yep there are searching problems, they seemed to work when there were no submissions but now that people have started submiting the searching isn't working :) Zwaxy is out of the normal place so it may be a while before searching works, but it appears submiting t8 recordings are stored fine on the site and the t8 leaderboard is working here. I can only get doubledr to find/search correctly at the moment, which must mean it might be a judging problem, and maybe it's ok for everyone else :)

I have decided not to put a integral speed limit but will definitley think about that for the next tournament. I was also thinking about adding a bonus for people that record early to prevent last minute recordings but couldn't find a way to not prevent bad scoring when people who get a good "improved" score in the last minute. This tournament i have a few bonuses in mind but will test them outside of live points...

Also if any judges have issues or need scores changed please post a new message in this forum or pm the change to me. thanks.

I don't know if it's ok for others?

...But I can see scores so far for a game, if I go to tournament page, click search, type for example shortname t8-potogold...And check (x) "FORMAT AS PLAIN TEXT"

Cheeky...

At marp main page click "tournament"
then click "search"
Write "t8" into "short name (leave empty to match all games):" -field
Check "format as plain text:" (bottom of the page)
Click "do it!"

Now you should get similar list Weehawk listed above.

At tournament page leaderboard works ok.
Also "up"-part of the uploads works.

Ok, I don't think this has been mentioned, but what stage should we start at in Oh My God? 1, 5, or 10?

We should start on any stage you want. You'll get the same points eventually (10000 required to clear a stage), but I suggest starting on the earlier levels just to get the hang of it.
