Defender Controls

Post by Weehawk »

I'm looking for something similar to the arcade controls to use for MAME on Defender and Stargate.

Something like this would be ideal:

http://link.mywwwserver.com/~jstookey/a ... dercp.html

That gentleman doesn't indicate on his page that he would have any interest in making one for someone else, but if nothing else works out I may contact him.

None of the commercially available panels, Ozstick, Hot Rod, SlikStik, seem to have an arrangement very close to these games. Does anyone know of anything else?

If I got a real Stargate control panel would their be some way of interfacing it with the computer?

The only hint I can give you (except building your own panel!) is to goto http://www.oscarcontrols.com

They have joystick restrictors. I think they have both 4-way and 2-way restrictors and they have a small guide that shows how to put them on your hotrod. I have not visited the site for a long time, but I can recomend you to check it out!

Edit:Seems like the link to the restrictors is broken :(

I'm putting it here in case it works later on:

I find playing completely with keys works very well with this game.

Actually, I've preferred all keys to using a joystick for up/down ever since playing hours of Guardian on my old C=64 machine. :)

Hotrod Se is fine for this game? Only thing is the 'reverse' button, which is slightly lower. All other functions are easily configured. I found that using the right hand side lower button for reverse is easier still, whilst of course using the left hand joystick for up+down....
