Inp recorded with beta versions

Post by A.D. SAKURAGI »

Hello to everybody.
I think that in Marp there are tons of inp playbackable only with beta versions of mame. The problem is that the beta versions of mame (mainly win32 betas) are missing. Now, i think that a good solution could be of accepting only upload of record that are made with final versions of mame (better the last).Moreover, about leadership, i think that dos users of mame are favourite respect the others because every beta is ok for mamedos but only some for mamewin (b4,b5 and b7 are official)
and less for other versions.Finally if we don't make changes (rom names) for every beta but only for every final version we will have less confusion.

Right... and then we can have a 400-game beta rush at the end of the
cycle, while you tick through each game alphabetically in the
meantime.

<p>

I have a better idea. Why don't we burn all of Zwaxy's scripts and
then repeatedly whack him with blunt objects? It would accomplish the
same effect.

<p>

In the meantime, check out the versions page or go to the MAME32 Q&A
page (where all the *missing* windows betas are stored). If you need
the URL, I'll post it.

<p>

Still grouchy,

Well, I waited some days to reply to you 'cause I had not too much
time.

<p>

-You said : Right... and then we can have a 400-game beta rush at the
end
-of the cycle, while you tick through each game alphabetically in the
-meantime.

<p>

It is not written in any page of Marp that I can' t upload a lot of
inp.
There are games in which I can be the champ and other games in which
I can do only a low score.
However, like you can see, I stopped my massive upload and I started
to delete all my records that takes 1-4 points.
In any case I think that between uploading games alphabetically and
uploading
many games at every new beta is the same thing.

<p>

A question: is better an upload of 100 records that takes 1 point
or an upload of a game that doesn' t exists and takes
100 points?

<p>

If it is not clear to you take a look at your record in one of the
*most difficult
game in the world*:

<p>

- sentetst -Sente Diagnostic Cartridge

<p>

Another question : A question: is better to take 200 points with 200
upload
or 200 points with 2 records?

<p>

I' m writing about your incredible score at deleted. But don't be
worried,
I resolved the problem creating a virtual player (Super Champion) with
the maximum score admitted (I think you forgot to set to 0 the score
of the
game you deleted).
About the first I think you must delete it.

<p>

Last thing I cancelled my records on invinco, invho2 and invds because
they
only playback with mame33b4 so why don' t you do the same?

<p>

About beta versions : every year about 30 beta (between dos,win...)
are
going out so in a couple of years we will have a lot of beta. the
problem
is not for me but for all that are joining MARP now or that will join
it
in the future.They will have to find too many versions!!!
Remember that Marp is (first of all) an archive of recordings but if
we
use beta versions for newer players will be more difficult to
playback.
I think that the use of beta must be admitted only for games that
playback only with beta version (like Invinco).
In MARP is written to test older recordings with final versions
so if you playback directly with final versions there will not be this
problem.

<p>

Finally I think that between uploading games alphabetically and
uploading
many games at every new beta is the same.

<p>

<p>

You said :In the meantime, check out the versions page or go to the
MAME32 Q&A page
(where all the *missing* windows betas are stored). If you need the
URL, I'll post it.

<p>

In the version page are stored only dos version and MAME32 Q&A
contains
only the last beta and not *missing* windows betas.

<p>

To finish : don' t think I am angry, simply Me, you and others marper
are here to have
fun and every record (the low and the big score) is done
passing hours in
front of the monitor (ok for some games only minutes).

<p>

-Nicely done on Invinco. That's going to take me a while to take back
-:(

<p>

You send me this e-mail when I surpassed you on Invinco and this gave
me more pleasure
that gaining 100 points - thank you.
I hope we will meet sometimes on #marp channel. :)

<p>

Sorry I didn't answer your e-mail, I've got a lot of people I have
to return messages to.

<p>

Your questions/statements, in order:

<p>

With regards to multiple postings, 'sente' score, and 'deleted' score

<p>

--100 postings worth 1 point each is lame. I'm not arguing that point
anymore, BeeJay and others hae quite convinced me. I'd much rather see
a recording of a game not fully emulated, so I can pre-learn how to
play it, than watch N.Kosaka miss pool balls 16 consecutive times (or
whatever) No contest.

<p>

--My score on Sente Diagnostic was quite deliberate, and in response
to your Super Champion 'deleted' score. It was a joke. Most people on
#marp had a good laugh at it too.

<p>

--On my "massive" deleted score: For the record: This score was
originally posted for RoadRunner, which I later figured out the
collision detection was broken on. I therefore deleted my score, but
since the 'deleted' function was broken, I could zero out my deleted
score, and anytime I deleted another game, it would revert to 1.6
million points. In fact, if you read Zwaxy's 'to do' page, he reports
that he is working (and HAS been working) on zeroing out points
awarded for 'deleted'.

<p>

This obviously wasn't a problem for anyone but you.

<p>

On Invinco:

<p>

--I will wipe out my Invinco recordings. I wasn't aware of the
problem. I thought mine played back, but I'm most likely wrong.

<p>

On MAME32 versions:

<p>

--Not much changes between betas with regards to recording (this is
part of the current tournament problem) so downloading a final version
shouldn't stop you from replaying my recordings. There *WAS* however a
point in the last cycle where something changed on the NeoGeos if I
remember, and I would therefore recommend you e-mail M. Soderstrom and
request a specific beta copy, or try one of the other MAME players.

<p>

--I'll finish the rest of this post later...I have to go tutor a
student right now.

<p>

Later,
Q.T.Quazar
