magdrop2-sm

Post by Q.T.Quazar »

Aaron Pieper's advertised score is 7250756... it plays back to 7820756 for me. dies at advertised level, signs name at the end. (man, i had to track down an old NeoGeo Bios and the correct sm rom, not to mention the old magdrop2.zip itself, just to play this back)

i have double-checked this score to make sure that i wasn't confused the first time. this should be the official score.

anyway, if you want the BIOS to watch this just msg me you-know-where. it's well worth having a look at the replay (although i swear this game has gotten faster in recent editions; Aaron is still clearly number 1)

pursuant to this, Sij Janna's 2nd place score does NOT playback. i have tried changing the territory dips and multiple settings with no luck. not a bad one to delete, as he advertised USA dips which are not permitted settings anyway. default is Europe dips; all other Magdrop recordings are made with Europe dips except for magdrop2-pm, and that's because that mode is only available with Japan dips.

Interesting, I'm pretty sure the Neo Geo BIOS hasn't changed in MAME ever, except when it was figured out what ng-lo.bin was for, which was unused before then. I did check magdrop3 with m37b7, and the romset checks out fine.

Actually, it was my dumb in the first place. I hadn't set the rompath properly when i loaded the new (old) verison of MAME32 on, so it couldn't find the ROM. I thought it was the rom first, and then the neogeo.zip file. Then I realized it was me forgetting to check configuration.

For the record tho', the neogeo bios has changed at least twice in my memory. There was the soudn fix, then there was the time one of the files in the zip was halved, then there was the discovery of the use of the lo.rom, and the addition of the extra files to the zip. There may have been more, but i don't remember which ones affected the .zip file itself.

Furthermore, Magdrop2's ROMs inside the .zip were all renamed at some point; i don't recall if the checksums changed at all, since it was one of the earlier dumped NeoGeo games.

Most of this is beside the point--Aaron's score still plays back to more than advertised, and Sil Janna's score doesn't playback, so the changes are the same.

ng-lo.bin was probably the ROM that was halved, as I remember some people had it too big. All the extra ROMs added recently are merely extra region BIOSes, selectable with the -bios switch. The default one is the same as it's always been. As for sound, I'm not sure what the BIOS has to do with sound other than providing the default sound for the Neo Geo logo (if it even does that). Many games did have their own sound fixes (ie: redumps) back in the day.
