Playback Question
OK, I am running MAME59 (DOS) and want to watch a replay of TRON from your highscore table. I've d/loaded the INP file and relevant version of Mame (34). My question is how do I open the older version of Mame from the command line, I enter the commands and TRON tries to replay in the newer version which doesn't run it? Any help appreciated.

I'm not sure i understand the problem but I tried to play that recording back with dos and mame32 (34) with different sound options and couldn't play it back. The dos command line may look like this (you have to state the game name AND the inp file option):
mame.exe tron -playback tron_34_1003655
as long as the inp is in the inp directory. But again i couldn't play it back, does a "tilt-like" think just before the end of the first cone level. Does not start game with out sound. Tjt?

Dosmame 34, with sound on: Mame tron -playback tron
You can also try -vsync -frameskip 0
See if the roms have changed since then at http://www.mame.dk. When using dosmame I usually rename the filename to 8.3 format. See if mame 34 would like to have roms unzipped in /roms/tron -folder.
Long time since I made that recording, might have had -sr 44100 -sb 16 or such options too. The most important thing is to check that you use same roms the game was recorded at and do not try to playback a DOS recording with mame32...
I might have a later recording at my old computer hd, few thousands better, played with original Tron controls and "enhanced" tactics... I played the m34 game using an analog joystick and a trackball

yep i think i watched it too, it was very cool but couldn't now, i'm going to try different sound options, can you too phil or someone one else, i.e. i want to see it again :)
EDIT: Sorry Tommi it playsback ONLY with -sr 22050, so i guess there's a possibility that someone could confirm a recording and the recorder could forget how to play it back and it could get zereoed because they forgot the sound options. Marky, this should playback with mame34 as long as you use sound when prompted and enter this.
mame.exe tron -playback tron_34_1003655 -sr 22050 -640x480
I also had to specify -640x480 because my computer is dumb when it comes to choosing resolutions with dos mame. But you may not have to.
