defender(various) - service mode playback

Post by negative1 »

even though this is in the sticky topic at the topic..

just wanted to see if this is right:
Game that requires Service Mode(F2) "On" at startup(1):

All atarisy1-sy2 games(i.e 720,rampart,atetris and so on)

(1)What I mean with this:Run MAME with the game that you want to play(without recording it)press F2(the service button),quit. Now record with the same game, then leave the service mode after some time, then play.

Without the cfg file(or if you want to do it faster)you can try to press F2 at the first play(on the ROM/RAM test),but I don't know if it works too...

Tested with DMAME .36/.61 ,don't know other versions...
for defender, you do the same thing,
start up, get into service mode...EXIT

then start the playback again, and it
should work properly..

is that right?

i'm using win61, and windows 98se2..

that information about nvram is fine if you don't plan on saving your recordings and playing the game with out needing to press f2. BUT, if you want to make recordings for marp and ensure they playback ok every time, REMOVE the nvram directory and you'll have to press F2 for each recording.

f2 is naturally recorded, so if you need to press it while recording if you correctly removed the nvram. so you'll have to remove it before playback so the F2 will playback the game ok, a link to marp would help:

i just played back ocean views just fine with out nvram. as long as you have the same nvram state as recorded this game playsback fine.

thanks for understanding, i almost thought defender couldn't be recorded with out nvram but it looks the same as an williams game, F2 and crank. i think i'll edit that comment out from the sticky topic because it's misleading! sorry.

nice score on defence, i'm sure you'll do better.
