2005 Olympiad Intentions...

Postby gameboy9 » Sun Nov 21, 2004 10:07 pm

OK - as I'm the only nominee, I'm going to talk about my ideas for 2005...

For those that are new, this is the only competition at MARP where you don't play for yourselves... you play for a team; specifically, your country. The competition is also one of the most unique:
ANYBODY can coordinate games for the Olympiad of their choice. (and they can play in them too!) They also set the rules... including DIP settings, extra rules, scoring rules, and even NVRAM allowance... as well as the playback judges. They did set what version you had to use too... we even had a qualification round to determine who would qualify for the sacred gold, silver, and bronze joysticks.
Anybody can pretty much be God for any game or games they wanted. :)

Now some rules and potential rule changes that I should talk about:
1. You can repeat games that we played in 2001. The real olympiad repeats games and so shall this one.
2a. I might make this olympiad 32 days instead of 16.
2b. I might make individual game competitions 14 days instead of 7.
While I was trying to reenact a true olympiad to the best of my ability, it's probably a lot better to have individual competitions longer to provide for a more ample and through competition. Therefore, those two improvements are probably the best in that regard.
3. This one is for certain: all recordings will use the latest WOLFMAME. If a new wolfmame comes out during the competition, we will still use the WOLFMAME we used at the beginning of the competition. Exceptions will be made for playback considerations.
4. I don't think we will have qualification rounds this time around... one of those things where it got a little too complicated.
5. There was a concern that there was no limit of games that a person could coordinate... so I think we'll limit that to three games this time around.
6. Priority will be made to those who previously coordinated games in 2001. Then it will be made on who probably has the best knowledge of the game. (probably based on who scored the highest at MARP or TG or some other legitimate place) Then it will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

I'm always open to suggestions, however; these rule change propositions are far from solidified.

Yeah - marathon games will have to be non-marathoned by the individual game coordinators... who might choose not to non-marathon them...
