K5 Round 6 - Strike Force

Post by BBH »

Game - Strike Force (strkforc)
Duration of Round - October 11th 2006 00:00 GMT - October 17th 2006 23:59 GMT

Much in the same way that Smash TV was Midway's 1990's update to Robotron, Strike Force could be considered an updated version of Defender. Except instead of having a ton of buttons, there's just three - regular weapon, special weapon, and a button to cycle between all the special weapon powerups that you can receive. And just like Defender it is a very fast and frantic game.

Since both Nanni and TRB stated that they'd rather have an off week, this will be a loser's bracket-only match. You guys will be playing next week though, guaranteed ;)

And since the emulation of this game is a little slow, we will of course accept wolf71 recordings done with sound off if absolutely necessary.

LOSER'S BRACKET MATCHUPS:

JYD@jvrm.net (2) vs. sikraiken (8)
saru3000 (3) vs. RAX@AIVA (4)
pat33999 (11) vs. zylquin (13)
mahlemiut (15) vs. gastrainga (9)

Sample junk replay. This isn't my best score, anyway. Can do a lot better than that after the tourney is over. :) So enjoy...

Interesting game, can't say I really feel like playing it though. Good call TRB.

Looks interesting to me at this starting moment... but a bit "weird"... for sure I will try some games during the week.
Sorry for the "week off" Martin, however I hope it was a good call for us hehehe

Yeah, not very often though. Only when looking for files usually.

I was right in the middle of my best attempt so far, and the game froze (in wolf106). The music and sound effects still functioned, but the video wouldn't move. I'm switching to wolf101, and hoping that it won't happen again.

Ok, Pat! I see your freeze replay. I noticed that recording speed is between 95-105%. It may be affecting the sound and timing issues of this game which it cause the game freeze during gameplay.

My suggestions: Go ahead try on Wolf101 to see if it works there or you can try your other cpu that you normally use on regular MARP. :)

Your PC's speed isn't going to cause the emulated game to lock up - that's just impossible.

speed would only cause it to slow down, of course unless there's something else on your computer either faulty hardware or program causing the stopage.

Faulty hardware is going to affect more than just the game running within MAME.

I've had another crash, this time in wolf101.

Pics 1 and 2 show each crash, and pic 3 shows the location of the green planet that it happens on.

I seen this rare bug happen on green planet, last night during playtesting under Wolf106. It was obiviously was related to sound emulation of Midway Y Unit games causing to crash sometime. There was no reports on MAWS regarding any Midway Y Unit game crash bugs. Rampage World Tour has a similar problems as Strike Force.

Pat... Are you using Autoframeskip on? I seen your last replay has 95-105% recording speed. It shouldn't be that way, due you got a faster cpu. All other players' replays are still getting 100% recording speed.

Try Wolf71 without sound to see if there aren't any more unknown crash from there. I'll try to talk the other 2 coordinator to bring up Wolf99 or Wolf83 if the sound emulation is screwed or something? :)

Just what makes you think that it is caused by sound emulation? Some clue would be helpful, having never had it hang on me yet (probably because I suck too much :)).

Well, mahlemiut! I almost delete this file, but you're asking too much trouble for this junk replay. You'll have to judge this for yourself, cuz I didn't even get to finish this one. Everybody will copy my tactics, anyway. :P
