Arcade in the movies, take II

Somewhere for the annoying and/or off-topic threads to go. Feel free to post about whatever, but abuse will still be dealt with, and possibly with more force. Especially pac-porno. ;)

Arcade in the movies, take II

Post by The TJT »

For the record, Falling in Love (1984) has a scene with Pole Position and Scramble in it. I bet you did not know this.

Horrible, horrible movie with De Niro and Streep having some kind of love story. IMDB rating of 6,1 with these actors pretty much sums it up.
Not that I was really watching...but that Pole Position sound in the background kind of got my attention...

They've been showing Hill Street Blues reruns here for some time, one episode a week.

Today they showed season 3, episode 13, "Gung Ho".
Original Air Date—20 January 1983

Officer Mick "dog breath" Belker was on a stake out...in a small street arcade.
I spotted Defender, Phoenix and Gorf.

Belker was playing Space Invaders stage of Gorf when officer at next door shop was shot in the stomach and later died. One of these episodes with lots of humour and drama mixed in bitter sweet way.

Can't wait for 3 episodes with young Ally Sheedy month from now.
She plays a visitor from some sort of religious girlschool...and a very flirty one. J.D. LaRue tries to hit on her...and to my recollection succeeding in it too. Saw those episodes around -95 last time...I love Hill Street Blues.

TJT over and out.

Anyways, just watched a very average movie Dragonslayer...starring, uh, Ally McBeal famed Peter MacNicol.

Anyone notice a similarity here? :)
(The dragons looked similar too)

haha, the fonts are the same, too. Too bad they couldn't make the movie, Cliff H. Anger! I guess Lupin stopped that.

Here's one that I stumbled to...One Dark Night (1983), starring Meg Tilly:

You can see Tempest, Game X? and Starhawk

What is that middle game? I've seen it but don't remember the name...

I haven't watched the movie beyond part 1 though, so hard to tell if it's any good...
On a related note, same youtuber has these weird old flicks, I watched one and liked it a lot...

I've watched yesterday a movie from 1987 called "D.A.R.Y.L" (acronym for Data Analysing Robot Youth Lifeform, as the young hero is a robot) : you also have Pole Position

He scores 79950 :)

I watched Big and noticed an Out Run along the pier when Tom Hanks' character goes back to the Zoltar to wish himself small again. There's probably some others in the film but that one I noticed. :)

two reality t.v. shows have , no three contain various old stand up coin opperated machines
hardcore pawn based in Detroit ,michigan . they have Buck Rogers 1982 sega ,seen regularly in the store showroom
pawn stars the las vegas t.v. pawn shop has Asteroids , yi ey kung fu 1985? ,Dig Dug
but on one occassion they went on call to someones' garage to look at an old pinball game and right next to where they were, Chumlee and Corey had their backs to a Phoenix machine not even paying any attention whatsoever to it!
American Pickers went to a private collection of coin op Vending machines ,pinballs, neon signs , etc. And there it is a Gorf by midway 1981 they didn't even acknowladge its presence geeeezzz! don't even care about the good stuff.
