Guitar Tabs for Games

Somewhere for the annoying and/or off-topic threads to go. Feel free to post about whatever, but abuse will still be dealt with, and possibly with more force. Especially pac-porno. ;)

Guitar Tabs for Games

Post by Caseh »

I'm not sure how many people on here play guitar, but I haven't really bothered playing games recently so I have been playing about writing tabs for music from games.

In this post I have attached a tab I have wrote for Ryu's stage theme, The Road from Street Fighter Alpha 3.

If anyone has any requests post them here and I will see what I can do, a midi or wav file of the song you want me to tab would be helpful also but may not be needed in some cases as I may know the song already :D

Absolutey amazing!!! thank you for posting this link TRB_MetroidTeam!!! The only recording of this song I have heard that is equal or even better is by Alfh Lyra and Toriyama Yuuji which is one of the official capcom recording studio songs, but then it was recorded in a studio. thank you TRB for providing a link to such a good guitar player!!!

I can't agree with this guy and others I saw being labeled as "great". I watched several of the videos related to this guitarist that was mentioned at first. It is hard to describe what makes a difference between "good" and "great" , but here I will try anyway.

These guitarists are very typical of the "all technical, no feeling" school of playing that began in the late 70s/ early 80s. While being incredibly talented from a technical standpoint, they offer nearly ZERO passion/feeling/emotion in their playing. They simply sound like they've copied their favorite guitarist's style and that's about it. I don't hear any of their soul coming through their playing. I think most of their playing can be traced back to Michael Schenker during his days with the early Scorpions and then on to UFO. His was a fluid approach to playing that also had feeling to it. He's been very hard to duplicate since. Unfortunately, since then, most young guitarists learned to play but not to feel. There are always examples of the ones with the special talent, but they are far and few between. A shame...and a real big bore that makes me yawn everytime I run across one of these players.

OK...thanks for letting me get that off my chest. To each his own. Enjoy!

Well, I must agree with you, although I can't be considered as an expert. I don't really give a damn about solos/techniques and other stupid stuff like that. You are right - only the feeling counts (to me of course). There's nothing like a catchy grindocre riff that makes you smile like a child. This is what I enjoy in music ;)

To be honest I don't really understand where you are coming from. There are not many people that actually take the time to learn a song from a game, the one I said that was good was from the perspective of someone who appreciates recordings of music from games and in comparison to a lot of other recordings I have heard that one was exceptional.

Most guitarists nowadays are rated on their technical ability, thats just the way it is. :)

Quick edit, Lee Kyung Won just became my new hero! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcVTu44U ... arch=Kyung < his take on Guilty Gear ~blue water, blue sky~

I understand now what your point of view was with this particular song. I am not a big follower of game songs being translated on guitar or other instruments, so I'm afraid I wasn't aware that there would be more than a handful of people doing so. From that perspective, yes it was cool to hear for sure.

If that is true, then it is sad. Just more of the "dumbing down" of the masses. That's why reality shows that involve TV audience participation are such a hit. It makes anyone feel like they are some kind of expert to what they are either listening to or viewing and oftentimes they totally miss the point because they are poorly informed to make judgement. It's kind of like letting a zoo full of monkeys make decisions affecting a nuclear power plant. OK...maybe not that bad, but you get the idea.
