Battle for the Biggest Bruce Boxleitner Berth

Somewhere for the annoying and/or off-topic threads to go. Feel free to post about whatever, but abuse will still be dealt with, and possibly with more force. Especially pac-porno. ;)

Battle for the Biggest Bruce Boxleitner Berth

Post by Weehawk »

Remember the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game?

The object is to link any actor or actress to Kevin Bacon via movies they were in using as few steps as possible: Person 1 was in Movie A with Person 2 who was in Movie B with Person 3 who was in Movie C with Kevin Bacon. It's actually pretty fun and challenging to do in as few steps as possible. Of course the Internet Movie Database allows people to write programs to calculate the Bacon Number for any person that can be linked to him:

http://www.cs.virginia.edu/oracle/

The same site has a more general search tool that finds the shortest path between any two actors/actresses:

http://www.cs.virginia.edu/oracle/star_links.html

How does this relate to video games? Glad you asked.

Yep, that's Bruce Boxleitner as the title character in Tron.

What I'm interested in here is who can come up with the name that yields the highest finite Bruce Boxleitner number using the star-links site above. Just type "bruce boxleitner" in the first box, and the name of any person listed in the IMdB in the second. You will be given the second person's "Bruce Boxleitner number" if they can be linked. (Use Movies Only) If they can't be linked, the number will be infinity and doesn't count.

For the name yielding the highest Boxleitner number posted before midnight GMT Wednesday night (For U.S.A. folk that's 8 PM Eastern Daylight Time, 7 PM Central) I have a Golden Era game of the Week t-shirt.

Ties will be broken by earliest posting. If you come up with a number greater than anyone else who is eligible so far, post the number to this thread, and PM me with the name to verify. (The name could be used by other players to try to find a name that scores higher.)

If you've already won a shirt, you're just playing for fun.

I've posted this on two forums. The same person can't win on both.

Zhorik found an 8, but he's not eligible.

Youve misplelled or something, clearly The King was in so many movies that it just can't be true:
The Oracle says: elvis presley has a bruce boxleitner number of 2.

Elvis Presley was in Jailhouse Rock (1957) with William (I) Tannen
William (I) Tannen was in Wyatt Earp: Return to Tombstone (1994) with Bruce Boxleitner
Kevin Bacon is center of the universe.

Why are you quoting yourself? Don't you think I read it the first time around?
Nobody can beat the King

Looks like Chad wins it with one "Fasihi", with a Boxleitner number of 7.

Zhorik found "Rastan", coincidentally the title of a 1987 scrolling fighter from Taito. Rastan was in a film with nine other performers who, along with him, all score 8.

According to:

http://www.cs.virginia.edu/cgi-bin/orac ... Boxleitner

there are 13 individuals who score 8. We have found 11:

Rastan
Asieh
Atashi
Ahmad Dehghan
Javadi-Pour
Mohammad Ali Ghotbi
Ahmad Gorji
Hassan Partovi
Ghoosi Pattovi
Tooran Veisi
William Rufus Shafter

If anyone comes up with the other 2, let us know.

Fasihi, who only is credited with one film in IMdB, can't be used to branch further to find an 8 linking through him/her.

PM me your size and mailing address, Chad.
