Math Problem

Somewhere for the annoying and/or off-topic threads to go. Feel free to post about whatever, but abuse will still be dealt with, and possibly with more force. Especially pac-porno. ;)

Math Problem

Post by Weehawk »

Another mid-week quickie:

George Strain and I played some doubles Joust recently. In the first game the ratio of George's score to mine was P to 1. In the second game, coincidentally, we played to the same total score, and the ratio of his score to mine was Q to 1.

What was the ratio of his combined score to mine for the two games?

Please PM your answers rather than post to this thread so that I may have a winner in each of two forums. If you give an incorrect answer, please excuse yourself from further guessing on that forum. (You may try one answer in each forum if you are a member of both.)

To keep things moving along, I will post any incorrect answers given, but won't tell who gave them.

For the first correct answer on each forum, I have the usual Golden Era Game of the Week t-shirt:

If you already have one, you're just playing for fun.

The problem is not terribly difficult, but may be slightly more complicated than it would appear at first glance.

I forgot one of our regulars here was trying to get his PhD in Math last I heard.

zlk got it. PM me your size and address.

You normal people can still try on the TG forum.

Imagining what zlk must have thought when he saw this one coming I am reminded of one of the "Celebrity Jeopardy" skits they have been doing on SNL over the last several years.

Will Ferrell plays Alex Trebek and one of the regular guests is "Sean Connery". The guy playing Sean Connery gives "Trebek" hell, frequently making references to Trebek's mother. In this one:

"Trebek" picks up the card to announce the Final Jeopardy category. He immediately hangs his head and says "Oh no......why would they do this......the category is......Famous Mothers". "Connery" exclaims: "MY DAY HAS COME!"

They're pretty funny. The rest can be seen here:
