Seeking the ideal place and the ideal job

Somewhere for the annoying and/or off-topic threads to go. Feel free to post about whatever, but abuse will still be dealt with, and possibly with more force. Especially pac-porno. ;)

Seeking the ideal place and the ideal job

Post by Bern-D »

I am working on a few exercises in the book What Color Is Your Parachute, and I would like your help on a few of them. I have three inquiries. The first is about my geographical preferences, and the other two are about the job titles and career fields that might interest me the most.

My Geographical Preferences

Please suggest as many cities, towns, or places as you can that have at least most the following factors (with my most preferred as #1):
  1. Reliable DSL connection or better available
  2. Solitary feeling
  3. Quiet
  4. Arcade with at least one popular shmup (like Ketsui, Mushihimesama, and maybe DoDonPachi)
  5. Mild temperatures year-round (like in San Francisco)
  6. Great air quality
  7. Necessary businesses (like grocery stores, shopping centers, and libraries) nearby
  8. Good traffic flow on the road
  9. Nearby available parking spaces at home
  10. Not overcrowded
If you need me to clarify the meaning of any of these factors, please let me know. Also, if your suggestion doesn't include all of these factors, at least it should include those near the top of the list.

Possible Job Titles

Consider my three most favorite skills (with my most favorite as #1):
  1. Playing rationally
  2. Problem solving methodically
  3. Analyzing deliberately
What job title or jobs (like accountant and reporter) do these skills suggest to you? Suggest as much as you can. (You can find more job titles in the Occupational Outlook Handbook.)

Possible Career Fields

Now consider my three top interests (with my most favorite as #1):
  1. Arcade Shooting Games ("Shmups")
  2. Quality Control
  3. Arcades
What career fields (like television and medicine) do these suggest to you? Again, suggest as much as you can. (You can find more career fields here.)

Summary

Again, I am asking three things:
  1. What cities, towns, and places might best fit my geographical preferences?
  2. What job titles might best fit my favorite skills?
  3. What career fields might best fit my top interests?

Despite their popularity in the online shmup community, you're going to be hard-pressed to find any arcades in the US that actually have a Cave shooter. Maybe in California, since there are some arcades there that have a lot of Japanese games. In the rest of the US, the only games that arcades ever import from Japan are almost always DDR or another form of Bemani.

the only Cave shooter I've ever seen in an arcade was an ESPGaluda at the NYNY hotel in Las Vegas.
