Ground Control to Major tar
Ground Control to Major tar
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground Control to Major tar
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may God's love be with you

(spoken)
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff

This is Ground Control to Major tar
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

"This is Major tar to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows"

Ground Control to Major tar
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major tar?
Can you hear me, Major tar?
Can you hear me, Major tar?
Can you....

"Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do."

I'm a fan too, I guess.

I only have 2 albums tho... Let's Dance and Station To Station. Station To Station is great... Oh, I just remembered... I have the soundtrack to Labyrinth too. :)

No doubt it will be good. He was here in Wellington early this year (a miracle...it was his only NZ concert). I didn't go tho. :/

Kind of little known fact here TAR.....

On the album 'Trans-Europe Express' ( Kraftwerk,1977 ) , one of the verses is:

" From Station to Station, back to Dusseldorf City.....meet Iggy Pop and David Bowie"

Apparently Bowie listened to this album whilst writing said album. So Kraftwerk repaid the compliment, by doing the above.

Bowie is a big fan of Kraftwerk, and vice versa.

Good to see Kraftwerk's fans are still alive and kicking. Nice quote, Al. Perhaps you would be interested in Lothar and the Hand People, too...

Lothar and the Hand People? I shall look into it Teen Boy

I trust your judgement in musical affairs.

From Half Man Half Biscuit's song ' A Lilac Harry Quinn'...

" If God had meant for us to work,
well then I'm sure He would have given us jobs.
Six weeks to live, but at least I'm not in Journey.
Sign on you crazy diamond....."

Cheers,

Hmm, just downloaded 'Machines' from their website. Good stuff. More investigation required.

Thanks for that young man . Always looking to broaden my musical horizons.

While we're on the subject. Here is another one of those forgotten bands.
I only got to hear of them thanks to an Italian friend of mine.

Here's a link :

http://digilander.libero.it/rockets/

I have a lot of tapes of these guys, but only one CD. Send me your address details , and I'll send it to you.

Thats of course if you like 'cosmic rock/futuristic type stuff'.

I don't recall hearing the Rockets. It appears their stuff would be next to impossible to find here in the US. I saw a brief bio on the band and I'm sorry I missed them! But, it looks like their following was mainly in Italy and France.

I "discovered" Lothar and the Hand People while managing a record store in the late 70s. I'm a record collector and anything that looked remotely interesting was fair game for me to buy. Their first LP came out in 1968 (the one with Machines) and it was well ahead of its time in terms of pioneering the whole robotic new wave/ industrial sound. The LP contains a wide mix of styles, but it's the quirky Kraftwerk/ Devo kind of material that piques my interest.

JTC, how do you fit into all of this? Very curious find with that Fillmore poster.

Al, I had to chuckle at the "JDR" bit. Nice crossover post.
