Golden Era Game of the Week – Game 5

The Game: Time Pilot

romname: timeplt

1st Place on MARP: 2.067.800 by Gastrainga

Deadline for submission to MARP: July 9, 2012 19.59 hours GMT

Time Pilot is a game with leeching problems, and that is the matter of the following special rule, quote from past Weehawk's GEGOTW: "I will therefore require that every level be completed in 10,000 frames or less, counted from warp to destruction of the mothership. You may use F11 if you wish to watch your framecount while playing. It does not obscure the playing screen and does not appear to affect recording. If you fail to complete a level by the necessary frame your score, for GEGOTW eligibility, ends at that point".
For new players, this is a game you can learn enough in one week, if you really want.
Remember it's your last chance to get points for play off, enjoy the game and make your best !
Use default settings.

I submitted my 1st attempt of 155,100. I keep watching the damn frames but there is more than enough time to complete a stage with 10,000 frames

If you aren't point pressing you don't need to bother turning on the frame counter since you won't get close to the 10,000 frame limit.

You only really need to be careful of the 10,000 frame limit if you are point pressing stages by either slow playing them to get more parachutes or delaying killing the mothership at the end of the stage and just flying around killing planes. On the 1st and 2nd stage of each loop it is generally worth the points/risk to play up close to the 10,000 frame limit for extra points. The 3rd stage is fairly easy too the first two loops and can be point pressed. You have to be careful if you point press though since if you wait too long and die you could run out of time.

The only other stage you could in theory run up against the 10,000 frame limit would be on one of the high level UFO stages if you died a whole bunch of times and you were trying to play a "safe" style and slowly pick off stray UFOs while looping.

293200 - not too bad so far, considering how rusty I am on this one....

... but will this game finally allow me to move off duck status?!?

Cheers,
BeeJay

Far too many "easy" deaths and still struggling with those darn space ship stages.... :(

401,800 and stage 10

Cheers,
BeeJay.

For the record I'd like to state:

1) I'm 100% convinced JSW's timeplt replay was done at siginificantly < 95% speed. His play doesn't make sense, he dies on the easier stages rather than the harder stages, and his fire rate is way too fast for Time Pilot (if you play with slowdown your fire rate will be always be fast. There is no reason to fire fast on Time Pilot). I raised my suspicions to the editors, but unfortunately, given the replay was with win35, there is no way to definitely prove slowdown.

2) Vignola Renzo's timeplt replay was DQed for leeching (which I think it had to be), but it is definitely still a great replay and the 2nd best at MARP. As Marco said, this game has leeching problems. For record keeping and competition purposes, I think it it is best to have a very clear time limit rule on each stage like we are using.

Just uploaded 139100. Not very good at this game I guess, although I think if I was using an original Monroe joystick instead of a keyboard, I might do a little better ;)

I think any joystick/joypad will be better than the keyboard.

Someone mentioned this being hard with a keyboard ? For a total newbie as myself it's impossible :(

29900 - first time I play the game ever.

Today I have painters in the house and will not be able to pull out the tankstick... I also have to check they don't destroy the house :?

40400 - with a very lucky ship. I think I can't really play this game without a joystick.
