Golden Era Game of the Week

See introduction here

The Game: Marine Date

Reward: $50 (usd)

Deadline for submission to MARP: July 7, 2006 2359 hours GMT

Further Bounty: none

I saw Francois and Phil's inaugural submissions on the title and tried it myself. Sort of like a mouse-controlled miniature golf game, but you're trying to get a male octopus through some obstacles to his eight-legged Dulcinea.

At first I thought it must have been a prototype or something, but apparently it was actually produced in Japan and just wasn't seen in the U.S. much.

You "spun" (like in tracball bowling games) to maneuver a bouncy octopus through an underwater maze to reach your girlfriend at the end. This only NOW just got added to mame.. but it's still obviously way from playable and the colors are very off. Even if it does ever get fixed.. I doubt it'll be too playable still since tracball games are always a crapshoot in mame.
Random prize: One player submitting a recording exceeding my own score of 22,290 points, selected randomly from those who do, will be the first to receive the 2006 GEGOTW t-shirt! If no one exceeds my score, everyone who submits will be eligible.

Any idea why some mermaids are 3000 pts instead of 1000 ?

Can also be 2000.

Must be (pseudo)random. I've gotten different amounts while getting picked up by them waiting on my first move on the first level, so it can't be based on anything meaningful in the game.

Clean sweep for Sampras on the bonus points.

Reminder about the random prize (the first 2006 t-shirt to go out): if no one exceeds my own score everyone who submitted will be eligible. If someone does, only those that do will be eligible.

And on that subject, I had a minor disaster yesterday. Everything that had been awarded so far this year was ready to be mailed. I left my car window down and there was a very sudden torrential downpour. Everything got pretty wet. I will have to repackage everything and redo all the customs paperwork. I'll try to get it all done this weekend, but it's a lot of work to have to redo.

You know I was wondering if des was holding back just in the hope of being the only one to beat my score, and therefore the only one eligible for the random prize....

Oh well. If it works it works.

Hmm... I think no one valid submission is eligible to the T-shirt until now...

Just finished watching. It was indeed recorded with WolfMAME .101.

And is ineligible.

There's no rain forest in the Amazon basin thick enough to keep him from finding you.

Actually, like I wrote before, I had already watched his inp and knew full well it was done with .101 when I came back and read your post.

Results:

1st: Sampras@AIVA (20,660)
2nd: Valter "TRB" - Metroid Team - Brazil (19,230)
3rd: KOZA (16,800)

Sampras takes first and all 6 bonus for a total of 16.

Eligible for the random prize:

donut (1-11)
KOZA (12-22)
Phil Lamat (23-33)
Sampras (34-44)
Valter (45-55)

56 is unassigned.

Watch at 0300 hours GMT for the numbers drawn here:

http://www.txlottery.org/online/winmegamillion.cfm

which will determine the winner. The first ball drawn under 56 will be the winning number.

And while destructor's recording is not eligible for "official" GEGOTW consideration, I'd be happy to award him a shirt also as a consolation prize since he was, in fact, the only one to beat my recording. (Which comes as a shock, I only played it a couple of days...must have been a really lucky game.)

Ouch... before my "target" was only to pass Weehawk score, to compete to the T-Shirt, thinking more other players would pass it too... and I forgot the 50USD prize... and now I see I was very near of it 8O

Also, congrats Destructor and Weehawk!

The first ball is 46.

What was that size again, Valter?
