Old WolfMAME versions

Post by diabolik »

I have been able find all versions down to 0.150, but is there any site in existence where one can download earlier releases?

wolfmame.marpirc.net gives a warning about harmful content and I hesitate to go there unless it's a false warning. Barry?

What browser are you using, diabolik? I tried the website both in Google Chrome (security warning) and Microsoft Edge (loads normally).

(Not going to comment on the security, or lack thereof, of particular browsers and going to encourage other posters in this thread to do the same. :!: )

It's just a file directory, so going there shouldn't harm anything. Check anything you download with a virus checker if you're unsure, but there should be nothing harmful.

In Chrome, go to settings, show advanced settings, and uncheck "Protect you and your device from dangerous sites".

Thanks guys, problem solved. I'll ignore the Chrome warnings and download from wolfmame.marpirc.net.

I had some trouble downloading some wolfmame version earlier. Apparently Chrome/virus programs think wlfview.exe is a virus. Of course it is not.

I was not able to download Wolfmame EXEs because my virus scanner delete the file once downloaded to quarantine.
I think we need to recommend that Barry maybe not compile to compress EXEs anymore?

What you can do is:
1. Go to an online un-compression site like this one: wobzip.org
2. Put in the URL for the compressed compiled wolfmame.EXE / ZIP file you need.
3. The site will uncompress the EXE, now you will be able to save the uncompressed files as a ZIP file.

Now there will not be any virus scanner problems with your saved ZIP file.

It's been a long, long time since I last used UPX (many years). I stopped using it because it started to generate unusable EXE/DLLs. If you have UPX handy, then it should be able decompress files as well with the -d switch.

UPX is still developed - https://upx.github.io/
