WCC8 week 1 : DIMAHOO

Post by Phil Lamat »

Let's start with a shooter : Dimahoo.

Bonus points this year will be given not only to the first player to finish the game, but to all of them.
For this game a bonus of 5 points will be earned for finishing the game.

Don't forget that 1 bonus point will be given to leader od day #2, 4 and 6.

0.118u6: David Haywood added Dimahoo (Euro 000121). Renamed (dimahoo) to (dimahoou).
Phil, what is the exact romset to use because if some use wolf 106 and others later than 0.119, then it won't be the same rom set.

Thank you for the organisation.

Good question.
Romset to use is actual parent rom, so you will need to use wolf119 or later.
I would appreciate if everyone is using same version :
let's say wolf138
(but any wolf is allowed)

I've just seen that link to WCC in upper banner is broken ;
waiting it's fixed, here is the correct link :

Any recommendations for a GUI for later WolfMAMEs? I'm still generally in 106 land...

Cheers

MAME+GUI - http://mameicons.free.fr/mame32p/
Basically a standalone version of the MAME Plus frontend, for Windows, Linux, Mac, and the source is available also.

Or you can use the latest wolfmamescore version 0.135 (mameui.32 + patch wolfmame 135).

Some questions

1- Can you submit every INP that you want?
2- If you press button 3 (shoot), you shoot automaticaly (it's an autofire and is legal in this game?)

Even if i'm not the coordinator, i can tell you that :
1 - you can submit as many inp you want but you must send it imperatively within 24 hours after recording.
2 - I discourage you to use this button because it's better to change color and charge your ship than kill everything with the autofire only. I think that if this button exists officially, then you can use it but this is not the way to score at max ;-)

But Phil must confirm all i said of course ;-)

Sawys was a bit faster than me, but he's right :
1- you can submit as many inputs as you want ; contrarily to Mamescore, I prefer that you submit a score instead of annoucing it here (in case there is some playback issue) ; and if you don't submit before 24h after recording, it will be disqualified
2-yes, you can use autofire as there is a button in the game allowing that (only autofiring a button through joystick is forbidden) ; for the tactics --is it better to use it or no?-- i let you see by yourself

Some other tips :
* To show up a menu of your collected treasures, press (ingame) Start for 2-3 sec. and press (while holding Start) Button 1.
* Secret Characters : Insert a coin and press Up(x2), Left, Down(x2), Right, A, B, A, B, A, Start. Four new planes are now selectable.

It's legal only so long as it's enabled by default, otherwise it's effectively using easier settings.

Also, you'll want to increase the scoring multiplier as quickly as you can, by collecting all the items in a group (use the inventory list to check). I am pretty sure that it's possible to get to x2 by the end of stage 1...

I was doing ok until I learned about the item system. Now I keep dying ...

Do specific items do anything for you? You can use a bomb early to get Great Armor and there's a "Armor x8" message, but I have no idea what effect that has if anything.

You need items of each level in each category to increase your multiplier, which will then increase the point values of the items. Higher level items are typically worth more points, and there are some special items worth 100k x completed categories. The level of items you get is determined by the charge meter at the bottom left (the number next to it is the item level you can expect to get).

You will get a cheer sound and a "<category> complete!" message in the bottom centre area when you increase your multiplier.
